1992 Chevrolet Truck 1500 Ext Cab from North America - Comments

Lack of power from 4.3L engine. My truck was an ext cab and only had a 4.3, which is really good on gas, but not so good when getting on the freeway.

Very dependable, low-cost vehicle to drive. The 1500 4x2 extended cab drives like a car, nice and smooth around corners, perfect tracking on the straightaway. I put 20K on this truck, and I hadn't found a problem with it.

My next truck is a bow tie, too!

I own a 1990 1500 Extended Cab with a 4.3L, and just recently replaced the 5-speed transmission at 209,000 miles. I would concur that there is a definite lack of power in this vehicle, but the MPG is a plus. This truck does ride like a car, and I plan on keeping this one awhile!

I own a 93' chevy w/t. It has a 4.3L V6 and I have had it for 8 months now. I found that these trucks shift way later or at a higher rpm then other competing trucks. I read up on this and the lack of power is do to such a low rear end. As soon as I can I'm going to put a higher rearend in. There is no reason these trucks need to go 115mph. I would rather be able to get up to freeway speed. I have a 5 speed manual and I think my tanny is going at 136k. Other than that I have had little problem. The delco battery which was the original battery just went out. So I replaced it. I also put raven exhaust in and a k&n air filter. It seems to help with the power. It does drive like a car. It is by far the best handling truck for years after. It doesn't eat oil either. I hope my engine last as long as you other writers. It shows no sign of dying yet.

I have a 63 Chevy II and me and my old man are dropping a 4.3 into her and everyone says its gonna be a quick unit, sounds like fun to me.

I owned a '92 Chevy W/T 1500 with the 4.3 V-6 and automatic for a couple of years and it was a very good runner. Sure, it didn't have the hard punch of the 350 V-8, but it cruised 70-75 no problem, ran every bit as well as a 305 V-8 and was very reliable and economical. The only thing I had to replace was the alternator, and for some reason, the motor mount rubber was breaking loose. I sold it for an '01 F-150 Super Cab with the 4.8 V-8 because I needed more room for my family. It didn't take long to regret it. The Ford gets lousy fuel mileage, much worse than the Chevy 5.7 V-8. I'm getting ready to sell it and find another clean '92-'96 W/T 1500, one of the best trucks I've ever owned.

Hey folks, I'm from Petawawa Ontario Canada. Two days ago I purchased my first truck, a 97, Chevy Cheyenne, 4x4, 4.3L V6, extended cab and 5 speed manual trans with 270,000 kilometer (no idea how many miles that it is). I paid $7600 taxes included. I really enjoy the vehicel. What sort of life span is generally expected of a well maintained engine? and are there any maintenace tips I should consider? Finally are there any good web sites to visit to review maintenace tips regarding this vehicel. Thanks.

I purchased a 1992 Chevrolet 1500 W/T with the V6 and a manual transmission from the wife of the original owner. It only has 25,000 miles on it and I love it. It is like riding on a sofa. My only concern is that there seems to be a lot of "slop" in the running gear noticeable when I shift. The transmission also kind of growls when it is working hard. Is this normal?

To the guy with a '90 4.3l ford truck, Ford never made a 4.3. It made a 4.0. And has a 4.2.
