1997 Renault Laguna RT Estate from UK and Ireland - Comments

"Nice looking bag of rubbish"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Heater blower resistor blown=£70 (fitted myself).

Tailgate catch worn (door would not shut).

Immobilizer light flashing continuously (car would not start, this happened twice so far, expensive!).

Rear fog telltale light comes on when indicating right and braking.

Rain leaking into rear passenger foot wells.

General comments?

Although this car had done a lot of miles when I bought it, it is the lowest mileage car I have owned and have had more trouble and expense with this than all of my other cars (Fords and Vauxhalls) put together.

This was my first Renault and definitely the last.

My local Renault dealers are the most arrogant people I have ever had to talk to. They never ring me back, they don't let me know when the car is ready to pick up. They don't do what they charge you for, then charge you for things you don't need. The invoices are full of errors (i.e my name and reg number). They accuse you of not giving them your phone number instead of admitting they lost it.

I am amazed reading your comments on the Renault Laguna, because word word I could have wrote it myself from the immobolizer issues to the heater to the leaky doors.

The car is nice to drive when it runs, but these plus the boot refusing to lock, and most important the complete useless unhelpfull attitude of renault staff. Which have forced me to look elsewehere for a new model.

My 1997 2L Laguna Estate leaks badly at the back, both doors. I have complained to Renault and to 2 dealers and been fobbed-off by them all. According to them no one else has complained about leaks with the Laguna so I'm on my own to sort it out. Why are Renault dealers so arrogant and unhelpful. Must be their Gallic heritage!

I have a 2nd hand Laguna 1.8 from 1994. Bought it at 94000 km. I had leaking back doors, but the issue was repaired by the (non-Renault) dealer in half an hour, and they have not leaked since.

I have now (since today) a blower which stopped working.

I cannot find the corresponding fuse (there does not seem to be one). All other electrical stuff still works...

What is the problem with the blower? Some of you do seem to have had problems with the blowers... Any suggestion is welcome.

Thanks.

I too have had problems with the blower motor, and found it was due to water entering into the pollen filter on the nearside of the car, then onto the top of the motor which caused it to short.

Hi! I have owned my Laguna for 2 years now ,good reliable car,no major faults!! The immobilizer faild because of the water of course and, nothing else...But when it comes about the dealers it is realy bad bad....Why? Because they don`t have time to give me a price for a cambelt kit, they don`t have time to look at the car or the first available day to book in it`s in 3 or 4 weeks....I do not blame the car i, blame the management!!!Do not go to a renault dealer unless you have to,they are very expensiv and useless..

Thank you!!!

24th aug 2004, thanks for the advice I have just purchased a laguna on, 24th aug 2004. having been a vauxhall man for 21yrs, i finally decided to try renault. I must say the car is excellent to drive and perfectly laid out. (car 1.8 16v rt. petrol 1998 R reg, 62,000 miles. purchased from a local dealer, who had all the time in the world.ie-not (renault).

They fully serviced the car, and changed the cambelt. full service history supplied & stamped.

Any future servicing will be done through this dealer. I hope I am one of the lucky ones, I would be interested to know if there is anyone out there who has had a catasliser fitted and at what cost, as this is one of the parts I was concerned about at time of purchase.

Much appreciated

a new renault owner.

I recently purchased a used Renault Laguna Estate that was first registered in 2001. Where do I begin with the faults?

1.Battery packed in within a month.

2. Passenger side tyre constantly showing fault, despite having been repaired by Renault Dealer!

3 Dashboard having to be replaced at a cost of £564.94!!

4. Driver's side electronic window having to be replaced at a further cost of £114.00 plus labour!

Extremely disappointed with all aspects of this car. Would not recommend this type of car to anyone. Also, what's the point of a warranty when everything that goes wrong never seems to be covered by it.
