Engine mounts loose.
Heater control switch stuck on high.
Valve cover gaskets, small leaks.
Starter failed.
Water pump replaced.
Carburetor rebuilt.
Excellent car to own, handles like a boat, but its worth the comfort it provides. V-6 engine is slightly under powered, but its burns less gas than the v-8.
Reliability is outstanding for the cost and the age of the car (payed $2300 for it)
Never had any major mechanical problems in 8 yrs of ownership, never left stranded anywhere even with a bad carburetor. Moved the car from Virginia to Alaska and it still runs fine at extreme cold conditions.
This is my first and only car I owned and never had any regrets owning it.
Recently I picked up an 85 Cutlass 2 door in showroom condition with 73,000 original miles with all service records for 600.00, how bout that for a deal!!! but, get this, not an hour later, the power seats ceased to function!!! but, no big deal!!
I can top that. I own a 1985 Olds Cutlass Supreme with less than 60,000 miles on it and only payed 200 bucks for it!
I got my 85 Old's from my Grandma for a $1 in 1999. It had 45,000 original miles. I have driven it across country and have put about 65,000 miles on it. I am currently putting a LT1 from a Camaro in it. She was the original owner and as far as I am concerned it will stay in the family for future generations to enjoy. Its my Poor mans Cadillac and by far the best car I have ever owned.
Good going Grannyshould be proud that building a rolling monument to her. Some of these guy complain about the handling of these cars well they are kind of weak however this is very easy to fix with heavier swaybars and poly bushings, It also helps to replace the body mounts as gm seems to forget to add all 14 mounts it's not hard, but a real pain to do your self trust me take it to someone prof. to do it it's well worth it. Also 225/50/15 tires are recemend any larger rub the frame w/out changing rim offset I put 255/50/15 on the back with wagon HD springs and Malibu police roaters and drums as there larger and cheaper then the so called high performance parts p. s.use s-15 truck read brake cylinders they work gr8. Stops way better than factory unless you want BREMBO which will set you back several hundered bucks??? Have fun buildingyour toy it's cheaper than forking out 30,000 for a new GTO or Charger!
Translation of above comment;
Good going!
Granny should be proud you're building a rolling monument to her.
Some of these guys complain about the handling of these cars.
Well, they are kind of weak, however this is very easy to fix with heavier sway bars and poly bushings.
It also helps to replace the body mounts as GM seems to forget to add all 14 mounts. It's not hard, but a real pain to do yourself.
Trust me - take it to someone professional to do it.
It's well worth it.
Also 225/50/15 tires are recommended.
Any larger will rub the frame without changing rim offset.
I put 255/50/15 on the back with wagon HD springs and Malibu police rotors and drums as they're larger and cheaper than the so-called high performance parts.
PS
Use S-15 truck read brake cylinders. They work great.
Stops way better than factory unless you want BREMBO which will set you back several hundred bucks.
Have fun building your toy.
It's cheaper than forking out $30,000 for a new GTO or Charger!
