This car refuse to die since my mother gave it to me when my father passed away in 1997. I was his personal mechanic and always took care of the car even if my father didn't ask many times for help because this car was and still so reliable even in very cold weather. It has the Oldsmobile 307 with Posi-traction differential (a must over here!) and keep running strong even with more than 389,000 km on it.
I own a 1987 4 door classic. It was purchased with 116,xxx on it. The car sat for over a year, and the year before that was totally neglected. I bought it for 1,000 dollars. Best thousand I ever spent. Tons of problems that were cheap and easy to fix. Since I've owned my Chevy, I get an offer from complete strangers almost every day. My only problem is not being able to find more info on this specific car for upgrades.
I too have an '87 Caprice & I only pd $1100 for it. Just like the last reader, I do feel it was the best grand that I ever spent. My comments are almost exactly the same in regards to lack of info. on this car. I have an issue w/the engine light constantly coming on. If you have any suggestions on helpful sights or literature for my car, please assist at epacker.baf72@primerica.com. Thank you for your support in having this sight!!!
I learned how to drive on an 88 caprice estate. pretty much the same car as the 87, maybe a headlight change. We drove it for about 1 or 2 years and then for red tape reasons let it sit for 3 years. I tried to tow it away more than once and then me and a buddy decided to see if it would turn over or if it was seized. We put a battery in it and sprayed some wd40 in the carb and crank-crank-vroom. 3 YEARS! Four flats and the same tank of gas, a little idle adjustment and a tuneup and it drives like the day we parked it. Were actually in the middle of the tune up so I don't know how it will do at speed, but for an engine to start up after three years of sitting is unbelievable to me.
I bought a 1987 Chevy caprice classic a few months ago and I love the car, but am having a few problems with it. I had to replace the water pump a few weeks ago and now I need a new radiator. I'm one of those chicks that don't really know anything about a car so I'm letting the "big boys" handle those problems. However, my headlight just went out and I thought hey if I can change my oil I can change my headlight. but I can't. I can't get the old one out! the wiring on it just won't come off. I'm trying to get some help on it so if anyone has any tips or if I'm missing something that should be completely obvious, I'd really like to know. thanks for the help.
