Since I am kind of rough on my truck, several things have gone wrong with it. First, I had to replace the transfer case and all components of the four wheel drive unit at approximately 50,000 mile.
Next, I took the truck in when the rear end "exploded" on me. I stripped out the pinion gear and broke the posi trac unit. When the truck was in the shot for this problem, the dealer replaced my water pump, spark plugs, plug wires, fuel pump, belts, and did a full tune up from bumper to bumper at no charge. This happened at about 70,000 miles.
This truck hold up well, if you spend the money to buy the better truck, you can expect better reliability.
Despite the problems I have had with the truck, I think it is one of the best on the road.
Man what in the world are you doing. one question is the truck stock. I just bought one and since they say you should learn from the mistakes of others I am wondering what I should and should not do I have a 2000 Z-71 SLT I don't have real aggressive tires on mine just the Bridgestone Dueler A/T's so I don't plan on doing much in the off-road department more than likely just a little when my friends a well drinking and need me to pull them out hopefully it will be the ones with the fords :P, but the only thing I have noticed on mine so far is the cv joint on the drive shaft is clanking so that I will replace I think the guy that had it before me did some off-roading with it because the underneath was brown so that is a dead giveaway. anyways thanks for your input Tim Maynard.
