This is one of the nicest cars I think I've ever owned.
It handles wonderfully and has quick acceleration.
My only worry is it being rear-wheel drive although it does have traction control. I have decided not to drive it in the winter.
I looked at them in 1998 when I found out this was going to be the last production year for the mark viii. But did not want to spend the 45000 for one. I now have one with 27000 miles and only paid 17000 for it.
I love my Lincoln mark viii.
I just rolled 52K on my 95. I call it the old dead mans car because the old man no longer needs it. I have put less than one thousand miles on the clock. The blend door was replaced ($517) but I love this car. It idles like a pussy cat, but will roar like a lion. Don in Florida.
I LOVE my 1998 Mark VIII. I purchased it in late summer of 2000 with an odometer reading of some 34,000 miles, more or less. I now have over 131,000 miles on her!! She drives like a dream, and I will drive this beautiful silver "bullet" until she falls apart!
The only REAL problem I've had has been a hole in the heater coil. And right now I'm facing a need to check the air conditioning, which is giving me only HOT air--no cold, and that makes for a bit of discomfort as I drive some 600 miles a week or so.
That's it! Once again, I LOVE MY CAR!! I paid in the neighborhood of $23,000 for her. I could never have afforded a brand new one, and the fact that I have this great car makes me feel like a queen without the price tag.
I hate the way my headlight lenses are dulled it sucks and my info center keeps saying low oil and mine shifts a little hard at 25 and 40mph my cigarette lighter doesn't work, but other than all the other Ford defects this car is great.
The lenses can be "buffed out" and be made to look like new again. Use 3M's finishing compound and follow with their micro-finishing compound.
On the tranny, check your 1-2 and 2-3 solenoids and springs above them. Chances are the springs have crumpled resulting in hard shifts.
This happened on mine, replaced them and now shifts smoothly. Check the web, some lincoln sites that show detailed instructions on the spring replacement. It's an easy fix, just above the pan.
I love my lincoln. The only thing is that it leaks in the trunk due to the rear windshield seal that is slowly coming apart. I would say it is because of weather, but I keep it in the garage and know that the last owner did also. If anyone can help me please contact me at uniquelykind@yahoo.com The dealer said it is not a recall. I also have a cd changer in the trunk that is now ruined. Please help someone because other than this I love my car. Thank you Kim.
