Rusting in less than two months at all welded seams in engine compartment and throughout vehicle. The paint work is very poor.
Vibration continues and gets worse when accelerating and at higher speeds. This remains and became worse after the best tires were installed by Goodyear. Goodyear to help resolve the problem replaced 7 tires, total of eleven (11) tires including the original ones in less than one year.
Window outside and inside moldings have gone rotten and stunk until replaced. This problem is also present in the Eclipse.
Door panel padding and fabric separated from resting elbow while driving, padding is extremely poor.
The emission when first starting is like solvent and it enters passenger cabin if wind is blowing right.
Passenger seat when slightly reclined rattles when going over the slightest bump.
Transmission has slop in lower speeds and actually jerks when reengaging. At higher speeds has a hesitancy or lag to engage.
If looking at buying a Mitsubishi, don't. With all this 0 0 0 financing hoopla why not 0 rust until first payment.
Had 2003 Mitsubishi Galant model with only 90 miles as loaner and it already had rust showing in welded seams. Owners of other 2000, 2001, and 2002 Mitsubishi vehicles allowed me to look at their cars including other models besides Galant and the rust is also present close the same time period.
If an owner of the Mitsubishi vehicle, any sign of rust should be addressed to the dealer before any new snow or cold weather arrives.fix in 2002 or 2003
If an unfortunate Mitsubishi owner, make sure to demand that a work order is initiated regarding the rust and the dealer puts their response in writing on it and you get a copy.
I would not suggest you accept any repair where Mitsubishi is having the body-shop to stand behind the "repair" work.
Mitsubishi Motors is at fault through their poor design and manufacturing for this rusting problem and don't get stuck on having to deal with the body-shop when the rust breaks through again. Make sure that Mitsubishi guarantees the work in writing.
We had four quotes and the body-shops stated that they could not guarantee the work because the rusted areas are not accessible for repair, only a cover-up with paint is possible.
I have checked other Mitsubishi cars, including the Mitsubishi Eclipse, and all of the ones checked had rusting welded seams in the engine compartment. I could not elevate the cars at the time to see how bad the rusting was underneath. The owners and unlookers were surprised how extensive the rust was.
Some Mitsubishi cars had areas as large as 2-1/2" in diameter where the metal and paint were lifting up (blistering) at the strut support welded seams and the cars were less than two years old.
Any weakening of these areas can result in collapse of the strut supports and affect your steering, endangering you and others.
Also the rust will weaken the welded seems and affect the crashworthiness of the vehicle, again endangering you and others riding with you.
See my website at http://www.all-lemons.com for pictures of the car.
Obviously, this person had a bad experience with their car... Rather than bash Mitsubishi's stance behind the product in question, I'd prefer some background to understand the nature of the complaints. I don't have ties to Mitsubishi in any way, but just purchased a 2003 Galant. The comments made seem illogical and bitter at best, making them seem unreasonable even if completely true.
I hope the issues have been addressed and corrected.
Best regards,
Shawn Mahoney.
I have just purchased a year old Mitsubishi Galant V6 Sport, and the bodywork condition is excellent, even allowing for UK weather. As the vehicle comes with one of the best warranties (unlimited mileage for 3 years, with the option of extending at a reasonable price) and a 6 year anti corrosion warranty, I am somewhat perplexed at the problems the original submitter claims to have encountered. It sounds as if there could be more to this outburst than is advised. Like the previous answerer, I hope that the guy gets sorted, and am happy with my purchase... it even gives me 30mpg UK!
As the only other negative impression on a galant comes from the USA and points out likely problem in the Mitsubishi North America factory, it may be the case that Japanese-built cars are fine while American ones not that good... Had a 1990 Galant that lasted me 1.5 day (head gasket went and I took the car back to the used dealer who 'd sold it to me), but still have a v positive image of Japanese cars, which has been reinforced by my short stint at Jaguar headquarters.
I think car problems depend on the dealer and the state that you live in. I have a 2003 Galant ES and the car is great, better than I expected in fact. I just take care of the regular maintenance and it runs great.. no rusting at all. Its unfortunate that your car experience rusting, it seems very strange to me. I know other people that own the Galant and they tell me it's a very solid car. I would look into the dealer or place you purchased your Galant, that sounds very out of the Ordinary. Hope you get it resolved.
I have a 2001 Galant ES-V6 and I am not very happy with it. First and foremost, there is a problem with the suspension. I had wheel allignment done 3 times within 20K miles. I've also noticed the transmission slipping for a while, but when I took it to the dealer, they said nothing was wrong with it. Well, the warranty expired and so is the transmission. Unfortunatlely for me, they have to replace the whole transmission and I have to pay for it. What else can be wrong with it... The keyless entry remote does not work - I replaced the battery, re-programmed the remote and still does not work. The Air Condition does not work - it does not get cold anymore even after recharging the freon. Did I also mention that the seat sometimes dis-engages - pushing me backward further from the steering wheel while driving?
It is amazing to me that it shows only 2 reviews in the beginning section. You then click on show all posts for this year and you have 6 more.. All negative.. The two "best written" are positive. 6 of 8 people are disatisified and yet the best written ones are positive reviews... I am wondering if Mitsubishi isn't trying to sway the consumer??
I had a 01 2.0 sport estate in silver looked hot, but front end was rusting away front valance was completely f***d with corrosion and exhaust shroud had rotted through its fixxings it was 3 years old at purchase then one of the belts snapped destroying engine after only 1 month of ownership bourght it private lost over 2 grand these cars are designed for driving round japan where it dosent rain much and dries up quick the uk is in a constant damp state most of the year, but I liked my gallant R.I.P.BABY.
