"A mid range performance family car for those on a budget"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Head gasket blew at 353000km just after I bought it.

Blew hole in Exhaust at 400000km

(driving on freeway)

Severe rust starting to show in November 2002 at 450000km.

Alternator stopped charging and had to be replaced at 480000km.

General comments?

Nice, comfy to drive, gets a bit rough on your bum during long distance.

Bit hard to start on cold mornings.

The engine picks up quiet well 0-100 in 12 seconds.

The dash in these cars are known to crack in any heat over 56 degrees.

Really chews the brake fluid

(known TM Magna problem)

Does about 100km to $15.00aus.

My poor TM Magna...

Well has done nearly 300000 ks, and I think it is dying. : (

Is a great... well god car inside. I have a Panasonic 45 * 4 CD head unit Old Sony 220kw 6 * 9 rear and JBL 6.5" in the font doors. (well more like on the front doors) and being a poor uni student I have been neglecting it. *slaps hand*

It is starting to burn a bit of oil, and isn't sounding good (I think a timming prob) so I need a few $$$ to fix it all.. but it has been a very reliable car and for one $1000 I can't complaine nearly having it 3.5 years :)

If anyone knows any good manuals on how to fix TM's cheapish then I'm all ears.. the_fallenangel@hotmail.com :)

BTW if you need pointers on the speakers in doors thing I'm going to get some pics sometime soon to help all those in need :) catch.

Ash.

Your lucky your 86 magna made it to 400000kms! My 86 magna only made it to 270000kms and died! Everything that could go wrong went wrong! Blew that much smoke it was embarrassing! Engine rings we stuff, used oil and water - needing topping up daily, only had the car for 3 years and put a new carby and a reco carby in it! 2 starter motors, alternator, a/c re-gassed every summer, automatic lunged roughly into second gear and from reverse to drive, auto choke died at about 220000kms, fuel pump packed up, 2 radiators, taco stopped working just after I got it, power steering leak, sometimes just wouldn't start for no apparent reason then the next time i'd go to start the car the next morning it would be fine for a days then do it again!

But considering all that it was a very comfy car! I now have a 93 Lexus ES300, Brilliant! I have also had a very reliable Vn Commodore with heaps of power!

Thanx for letting me get that off my chest!!!

Cheers,

Liam.
