Well, this can be a really long list. At 2,000 miles, the catalytic converter went. It was repaired under warranty. I also had the seat belt buckle cut the plastic of the front seat when moved forward. This has to be done for anyone to sit in the back. At 7,000, it did not pass VA state emissions inspection. I took it back to the dealership who fixed it, but while fixing it, they broke the head of a bolt on the exhaust, so had to drill the hole bigger to get the rest of the screw out. At around 10,000, it started misfiring, and showing the "check engine" light. The catalytic converter went again, also fixed under warranty. Then some kind of sensor that measures how much CO2 comes out of the engine went. It's an expensive little thing, and the dealer told me they couldn't get it out in an hour because it was melted in place and was stuck. So, they had to charge me an extra hour for it. It's not like I hammered it in so he wouldn't get it out. Then the pinion sealant broke. The car ran OK for a while, and now, more $$$ spent on this can. I got stranded on the road, and the dealer is still trying to figure out what it is. This is after they had me pay for spark plugs and wires change, a $45 fuel system clean, and replace the clutch coolant that also broke. When asked why, the dealer said, it happens. The car left me on the road again right before going home for thanksgiving break. The dealer was hesitant in giving me a loaner, which they did, after I broke down 3 times that same day, around the same spot, and got towed 3 times that day. All I wanted was to get home for break. While on break, I was informed by the dealer that it was the fuel pump, on top of the crank sensor being burned because it was sitting on the manifold. They knew about the sensor before hand, but somehow came up with the fuel pump change, which cost $500. The sensor only cost 50 bucks, and hasn't been replaced. If the sensor fixes everything, the fuel pump didn't have to be replaced, and I got screwed by 450 bucks. As I write this review, the car is at the shop again, for the same reason as before. Let's see what they can fix now, that won't really fix it.
Please, for your own sake, don't buy this car. It's the biggest piece ever. If you can afford it, get a land rover, a Nissan, or any Japanese better made car. My parents own a 98 Grand Cherokee, and I don't want to get started on that one either. I'm not writing this review based on how comfortable the car is, if it's quiet or not, if the ride is bumpy. This is a jeep, so you should expect some discomfort, bumpiness, and things like that. They just add character to the car, which is fine, but being at the shop all the time is definitely not fun. Somehow they can't never pinpoint the problem, so you end up paying a lot of money for nothing. I can't wait until I sell it. I really can't. Off road, I can't complain, it does its job, that is, IF IT WORKS!!!
Sounds like the dealership is a big part of your problem!
First of all, you should never go to the dealership once it is past warranty. The dealers will try to get you to get all kinds of things replaced that you do not need.
The next problem is that you need to learn more about your vehicle. You listed it to have a V4 when in all honesty, there has never been a V4 put into any jeep vehicle ever. It is an inline or "I" formation, hence an I4.
The CO2 sensor could have happened to anyone, because those things are a horrible invention and they have problems with them in most vehicles.
My advice to you for the future is to learn more about your vehicle, so you know what is going on, at least to the point that you realize not to go to the dealer for everything.
I have a 1997 Wrangler SE with an 2.5 I4 engine, and I have had my problems with it, but it has not really had any problems beyond what any vehicle might have. It is a great vehicle and it can take anything. I have over 140,000 miles on it and it still drives like it has 20,000 on it.
Good luck in whatever vehicles you get in the future, but remember to learn more about your vehicle before bashing them.
