I haven't had any problems with this car whatsoever unless you count that the trip meter isn't as reliable as it probably was back in 1988, other than that I have not had a single problem,.. admittedly I have fitted an aftermarket induction pod and an exhaust, but that was at 180,000 kilometers so I can't really see that these where a problem.
Firstly all of you out there who think HOLDEN had anything at all to do with this engine other than writing their name on it should go and check their facts. The engine is based on the old 260z Datsun block and is called an RB30E which stands for RACE BRED 3.0litre EFI a turbo version WAS available and is also entirley the work of Nissan's engineers and not holden's. The car I am driving is a "silhoutte" version in a 5 speed manual the gearbox works well and the clutch is quite good. Performance is great with even small modifications I manage to beat most 6 cylinder holdens and fords with only the later ones starting to pull away.
Yes I agree there seems to be a lot of people who thing this is a holden engine. Put quite simply holden couldnt build something that good.
Holden Rule! and will always beat the rice burners.
I agree it is an nissan engine (a very good one I might add). my bro has a vl he likes his engine. but I have to say the vl looks so much smother sleeker and younger than the old skyline ever will. nissan can pump out good sixes, but in the hoon stakes, a nice 8 pot engine will kill a N/A 3 litre all day every day.
The vl looks way better full stop, no question about it.
HOLDEN RULE! NO RICE EATING JAPANESE CAR COMES CLOSE TO IT! (in looks anyway)
Holden do not rule. The VL only sold due to the reliable Japanese motor. I don't like the derogatory term ricer as it shows people's ignorance. The Japanese make the most reliable cars in the world. I have owned half a dozen Fords and Holdens and recently bought a Daihatsu Mira and a Skyline R31 for my wife and we haven't needed to repair them yet. Whilst the Fords and the Holdens for 3 times the money needed major repairs and even then were less reliable.
I will never buy an Australian car again. Japanese reliability all the way.
