"A car that more part of the family than it is a family car"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Window washer works 99% of the time.

General comments?

Fantastic!

My wife was unsure about getting a mpv, but now she go any other way.

We have taking it around kangaroo island and then up to Cooper Pedy (australian outback). The cruise control made the trip comfortable, I set it on 120km/hr and left on that for 4hrs without turning it off once, and the Zafira didn't miss a beat.

We even drove it on some 4WD only tracks, the lim/slip dif kick in as soon as we started sliding and noone panicked.

It is the best car we have ever owned.

We purchased a new Holden Zafira in 2002 and have it serviced regularly as per the manufacturers specifications.

We are middle aged, sedate drivers averaging 15-18,000 kms per year.

In 2006 the coils failed at 64,000km requiring replacement for which Holden met half the cost, our out of pocket expenses were $300.

In 2007 the timing chain broke requiring an engine replacements at 79,000km. At a replacement cost of $7,000-$10,000 (we are deciding whether to repair)and Holden are considering whether to meet some costs as the care is out of warranty.

Surely a engine, driven sedately and serviced as per specifications should last more than 80,000 km.

Overall opinion - reliability is poor and repair costs are high and likely to be incurred in a short to medium time frame
