"It preaches the value of buying an import"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

The weather molding has pulled up from the door on both the driver's and passenger's side in the front. It came right back off after having it fixed.

The switch arm for the windsheild wipers shorted out 2 electonic boards causing the wipers to quit in the middle of the windsheild.

Front passenger side rotor warped and was replaced before 20,000 miles.

The third door became very stiff when opening after a short time and squeaks horribly when opening all the way.

The bed of the truck became unaligned almost immediately so it sits further to the driver's side.

Most recently, the transmission decided to shift down to 3rd gear while I was driving at about 75. Eventually shifted back up to 4th for about 5 minutes and then back down to 3rd again. I had to drive 45 miles at 60 mph running at about 3300 rpm. Having this looked at on the next service day.

General comments?

The 2.2L engine is severley underpowered and requires redlining just to keep up with normal cars on take-off.

Yes, the 2.2L 4 cylinder engine in the S-10 sucks very much. I feel like I am racing like a madman just to drive around town. This engine will probably just catastrophically fail if it ever hits 90 mph. I wish I had read some of these reviews before buying mine.

I have a 2003 s10 work truck. Had it at the dealer three times for repairs. First was the taillights. There were no fuses in it from the factory.Second, the wiper arm came loose due to the nut holding it on being stripped out, put on wrong at the factory. third time, air conditioning compressor locked up.broke the serpentine belt and the water pump. Bottom line, Show me to the nearest toyota dealer!

Well I've read most of the reviews that was posted and I have to say that I have a 2000 xtreme and I love my truck she does handle real well it does have power and it's only a 2.2l so I don't know what you have done to your trucks, but maybe you should buy another one somewhere. and when I got my xtreme it had 87,035 miles on her and she runs real good.

My 2000 S10 LS Xtreme is a great truck. With the 4.3 liter V6 I get plenty of power - 190hp compared to the 120hp the 2.2 liter has. It's easy for me to speed and fishtail around corners. This is a great car to have fun in, if you spend a little bit of money this truck can be a real hot rod. Plus when your driving an Xtreme, you get a lot of looks.

Everyone says buy american, but american products are not what they use to be, so if you're going for an import, more power to ya.
