"A fast comfortable open road tourer, with great fuel economy"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Front grille cover is held on with hopeless plastic grub screws, had to sikaflex into place to keep properly aligned.

Car is otherwise faultless so far.

General comments?

Not as quick off the line as the VX acclaim I had previously, but a LOT smoother. More mid range torque, MUCH better handling, possibly due to decent width tyres. Much more positive and stable on the road, just feels better to drive.

Very nicely appointed, and has a lot more obvious difference than equivalent VX berlina. Like the interior and the exterior styling of the AU3 a lot more than holden, my car has factory 17" tickford wheels and Tickford bodykit, very nice package. Just a warning that these two accessories doubled my insurance policy over a standard fairmont with EVERY insurer I tried. Something to keep in mind!!

I now know why the taxi's are all falcons, they are simply a nicer drive. The Holden is a lot punchier for city driving, but the change from 1st to 2nd is awful no matter how you drive it, the falcon can be driven such that I feel a glass of water would remain on the bonnet up the gears. At 80 kph plus floor the holden and it simply makes a lot of noise, the falcon has a lot more up and go, definite strong point.

Seats and steering wheel are much nicer than Berlina, stereo and woodgrain accents are better also. Personal taste, but add to this that the entire package is a few thousand cheaper overall... not a hard choice.

The holden will possibly have a slightly higher resale, but the tickford fairmont has killer looks and handling with great creature comforts for the money. With a few engine mods to the standard intech engine the XR's and the supercharged Holdens will have nothing over this guy. Still a great drive stock standard.

Can't wait to try a new BA. Unsure of the looks, but it sure reads great!!
