I brought the car from an old couple who had it from new. When I got it I changed all the oils and air filter and the plugs and leads as well as the tappet cover gasket. all of this was just to really service it if any thing, but when I got it it ran fine any way.
This car goes a lot harder than I had expected. my previous car being a 3.8L OHC commodore (which is a Buick Engine) had power, but it was rough sounding and all the stuff started to fall apart at 180000 kms. The Cressida which I got at 200000kms goes harder than the commodore and it is more smoother and quieter as well. All the options on it are well ahead of its time for its age, and were kept in such good condition it is like it just rolled out of the factory. The car also drifts very nice aswell being RWD and the car just before the Mark II turbo which in japan is a very popular drifter in competitions The car goes hard and looks soft when it is stock.
Please respond to this - I ask you don't you think that the spark plug wire set is a little extreme in its price?
Hi, my name is Ken and I live in Melbourne. I have just purchased a 1990 Cressida, 200.000ks, and in good condition. I have one problem only, I find that the cruise control is not working. Have you had this happen? Do you have a remedy?
Beware if you plan on using the cruise control and the car is a 5-speed. I had an '83 Cressida with 200,000+ miles, which ran beautiful until I put the car in neutral by accident with the cruise control on. This blew my water pump & I had to junk the car.
My name is Michael. I'm researching the Mx83 Cressida. I've heard the cylinder head gasket is a problem with these cars. Your comments would be very much appreciated.
Head-gaskets aside... the Cressida is still one of the best built vehicles in the world!!
I have owned a 1990 toyota cressida 3.0 ltr gl for 3 years. I purchased it with 178000km now 200000km it has been by far the most reliable and comfortable car we have owned. We are not keen to change it for anything younger for fear of a lemon. The only problem we have had in the three years has been a leaking power steering hose and the occasional starter motor problem (needs new brushes) all in all an extremely well put together motor vehicle.
I am horrified that you would use such a beautiful car for drifting! It was not designed for that.
I bought my 1990 Cressida GLX (MX83 Sedan) last year from and old couple who had it from new and seviced it regularly. I can't heap enough praise on this car. It drives beautifully and feels very safe. It is also suprisingly quick if you need it to be. I haven't had any problems. I also gives great fuel economy for a six. Nothing compares to this vehicle for build quality and little luxuries (cruise control, power assist, air-con, power everything, remote central locking, alarm and immobiliser). And the price, only (AU$2500). Perhaps the best car I've had. I love her.
Hi, I own a 1991 Cressida GLX for 7 years, and had the tappet gasket done. Now it's leaking again. Can you tell me, are there any other places it could leak in this model. It just started leaking bad recently, and I must say I love this car, it goes like a bullet, and smooth ride, all electric stuff as well as cruise control is great.
Toyota thought about this car, the CRESSIDA.
Just awesome. I'm a lady owner too.
Hi to all. I'm driving a 3.0i Cressida. I'm very happy with its performance. It still remains a competitor in the modern market, though a 1992 model. Its stability, speed and reliability cannot be doubted. Any how, it remains Toyota's best craft.
