"Wonderful to drive, just watch that cam-belt!"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Small leak in aerial allowed rainwater in, damaging remote alarm sensor. Required reseal and new sensor approx £80 total.

Cam-belt snapped at 52000 miles!!!

Peugeot recommends replacement after 72000 miles. Cost approx £2400 with Peugeot paying 30% of that.

General comments?

This car is fantastic fun to drive and the performance is superb.

However Changing the Cam-belt at half the recommended mileage is a must as Peugeot have got it wrong. I think they have based their estimations on a basic 306. Shame they know so little about their own cars.

How can one watch a cam-belt?

There is no test to say when it may go- and the suppliers of my used HDi 306 Estate (Reg:2000-90bhp Diesel) insist that 92K miles is the figure now... I think I will change it at 50K- as it is going to work hard as a taxi!

I would be most interested indeed to findout out how you managed to get Peugeot to pay 30%. I take it that was the cost for replacing the valves etc caused by the failed cam belt as I am in the same boat.

I have added a previous comment, but for your information, I had a cam belt replaced as part of a Peugeot recall when the car had 32,000 on it then 43,000 miles later it snapped!!!

I would be grateful if you could contact me on 07801 845123.

Cheers.

Same thing happened on my 306_gti_6; the cam belt snapped at 54,000 miles with full pug history. Peugeot refused to cover it and I had to take it to an independent. Cost £1600 to replace 8 of the 16 valves.

Car was great fun, but I grew tired of driving a car that felt like it was going to blow up constantly if the trim were going to fall off.
