Surprisingly little!
The two major issues both have to do with air-flow and climate control.
The AC (evaporator core) developed a leak within 3 years.
The mesh guarding the entrance of airflow into the interior is prone to clogging.
Amazing performance for a North American product. It is at 323,400 Kms and the engine (and turbo) are still performing excellently.
The body has started to rust a bit along the bottom of both doors as is usual.
Overall... a really super car! I wish they were still in production.
I have had nothing but trouble with mine since I bought it.
I love my Pontiac Sunbird GT Turbo. It was my first car and I've had it for close to 6 years now.
It easily out performs just about any other car I've ever lined up against. I can never see myself getting rid of this vehicle, although I do have another car on the side. All in all, I must say this is the most exciting car I have ever driven and I just wish that they would get a little recognition for their performance, I mean, how many stock four bangers rip on 5.0 Mustangs, huh?
I love my 89 Sunbird Turbo. I drag race this car and run very low 14 second 1/4 miles. I have just gone from 10 psi of boost to 15 psi boost and will add slicks. This car will easly run 13 second 1/4 miles. I pity any car on the street that I pull up against sans a full race car. In the 1/8 mile I have even beaten a Z-28 SS.
My best friend has a black '89 Sunbird GT. I have a blue '92 Sunbird SE 4-door. I would give anything to replace my 2.0L with automatic for his 2.0L Turbo with manual transmission. The GT should never have dumped the turbo for the V6. The turbo made this model line stand out.
I love my 1987 Pontiac Sunbird Turbo GT Convertible. Every one visit http://www.j-body.org for more J-body info!
