At around 150,000 miles the Cherokee developed a mysterious problem with starting. The dealership was clueless and just wanted to throw parts at it until the problem went away. It didn't! My friendly community mechanic bypassed a wire around the wiring harness and the problem didn't come back.
Drivers side seatbelt clip spring broke and dealer gave me a run-around about fixing it under warranty.
Rear main seal gave out at about 125,000 miles and now needs to be replaced again at 250,000. Major expense!
Clear-coat died after about five years, but I have heard that is a general problem with all Jeeps.
This is the most dependable vehicle I have ever owned. It hasn't been fault free, but even with one $750.00 rear-main seal and another one creeping up on me, I have had no other major trouble. (since I learned to keep it out of the shyster dealer's shop)
No other vehicle since my 1965 Falcon has been as much of a workhorse.
I would like to know which wire was jumped, I have the same problem.
