"An all around show stopper"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Nothing (yet)

General comments?

I am 17 years old and have searched for many cars over the last year in a $7,000 price range. When I went to a local Chrysler dealer I was instantly attracted to a 1997 LHS. This car fits me perfectly since I love old man cars. So far the car has been pretty good. I have only had to replace the battery, and tires. I recently put a huge system in the car. The vast trunk space makes it easy for my two 12 inch subs to fit. However installing the system was difficult because these cars have limited room in the engine to run a power card through to the inside. Overall I am trying to go for the most unique LHS in the world. My plans are 16" custom chrome wheels, tint all windows, LHS decal on upper windshield, and neon lights all over. This ride is already equipped with a sound system loud enough to shatter glass, a Detroit D on the back windshield, and two neon lights inside, and two neons outside. Wish me luck on my journey to make my car the pimpest LHS in the US.

I have the same year car, and I have done everything to it that you wanted to do. I put lights in and out of the car. I put 4-12" W6 woofers, and 2-1000\1. And I put 20" custom chrome rims. I also added cool chrome tint to all of the windows. It looked good, but I went through 5 alternators. The A/C control went out, the blower never shuts off. The turn signals just went out when driving out of town. Good luck.

Well, you fried your alternator by putting too much load on it, I have a 96 LHS, Dual battery setup, Optima gel cell in the trunk, pheonix gold isolator, I run 2 mtx 8100 D's and 2 2400x's, 4 audiobahn aw 1000 x subs in a custom vented enclosure. I have no probelms with power, headlights never even dim under full load. Dual battery is the way to go! I also have a full farad cap to stiffen my amperage. Without the dual battery setup id drain my car too much and kill the electrical system. The car is great, I love it, its all pimp and rides like a dream, I've done nothing with the exterior yet, left it stock, and it makes me laugh when I pull up next to these custom rides bumpin' there stereos, and completely drown them out with my setup in my grandma car!! I am putting on some 18's next spring, and some tint, tand that's it, only thing inside that is different are some blue leds in the door handles and under the dash, have them set on a dimmer, looks very nice.

Actually, a dual battery setup is MORE of a drain on the alternator!!! Den.

Dude, you like old man cars too, you rock. My mom has one of these, it is badddd, the best part is turning off the trac control and flooring it. BURNNNN, it actually leaves marks, and I can really amaze the hell out of people.

That's pretty cool. I never thought that there would be other people who take so much pride in an old chrysler. I have a 96' LHS and we have quite a history together. The car had 100K on it when I bought it from my best friend's mom 4 years ago. I drove the car as it was for about 80K and then I went to work on it. I replaced the entire front suspension and half axels, rebuilt the transmission, new engine (3.5 liter V6), new alternator, radiator, condenser, compressor, and exhaust from front to back. New rear suspension, head and tail light housings, new chrome all around and topped it off with a set of vogue tires. The sound system is OK with an alpine multimedia station, monitor in passenger sun visor, ps2 in the trunk, two 12 inch subs powered by a single amp, 6 by 9s in the back deck and five and 1/2s in the front powered by two punch forties. Never had a problem with power, just added a ground wire and a lightening cap. The speaker enclosure is all custom made from fiberglass. I even went as far as to relocate the climate control head unit into the ceiling to make room for the alpine and hardwired a radar detector and second tv screen to switches on the center console. A third switch on the center console bypasses the safety lock that is usually installed on the alpine monitor. Now I can watch tv while driving. No navi. The car is pretty much stock that's brand new and hand built.
