Door seals keep popping off, a common fault I'm led to believe.
Fuel tubing split and very kindly leaked fuel all over the nice hot engine...Frightening!!!
Mileage clock bulb has blown twice.
Seats are nice and comfy, but feel a little bum numbing on long hauls.
Not a great deal of headroom if your like me and like to sit fairly upright, although plenty of adjustment is available.
Lack of any lumber support adjustment is a real shame.
Quicker off the mark than my last car, but no contest on top end, although it does handle remarkably well.
Irritating droning noise from the rear of the car when doing mid range speeds, thought it might have been a rogue wheel bearing or something, but there is no play evident when the wheels are in the air. (Any clues??)
Cheery interior, and nice Un-obscured view of the clocks, and a fantastic heating system that gives you that nice, warm toasty feeling in the winter months.
I have the same concern with my 1999 406 Coupe, there seems to be a rumbling noise which is noticeable on smooth roads at about 40 to 50 mph. If anyone knows what is causing this I would be grateful for your help. Bearings have been checked and are OK, padraigandcatherine@esatclear.ie.
My car is a 1998 LX diesel model which suffers from a rumbling noise also from the back of the car. It occurs over mainly uneven road surfaces. Does anyone have any answer as to what the cause could be? gerry.thorpe@tiscali.co.uk.
I'm just about to buy a '97 406 LX and on the test drive I too noticed a rumble from what I think was the back end. I noticed that this noise was similar frequency to the vibration of the gear box (held the stick and pushed to the side to feel gear vibration) could this be related and if so is there a potential problem?
Still intend to buy the car as dealer checking bearings etc and servicing before I pick it up.

My 1998 406 LXDT suffers from a rumbling noise from the rear suspension when driving along. It could be an anti rollbar bush, but this is just a guess. Does anyone know what could be causing this.
