"A very economical car, keep an eye on those transmission to engine bolts"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Transmission to engine bolts have come lose several times. Damaging the clutch

disk.

General comments?

Owner feels the engine block needs a mount to the firewall. Single transmission mount to firewall is insufficient.

The car is a snap to repair. I have rebuilt the engine. And find the parts to be very reasonably priced. For the home mechanic, the operation and upkeep of this vehicle is very easy on the pocket. I'll probably be driving mine for years to come.

I agree that these are cheap cars to keep up. I've put almost $2,000 in my car on modifications for more power. I'm strictly interested in this car as a street racer. I've found it hard to get upgrade parts for this car, so we've done a lot of oem replacements after cryogenically treating them. The a/c sucks. Everyone knows that as one of the largest flaws for this vehicle as a passenger car. If you remove the a/c compressor and cooler you not only drop over 20 lbs in unnecessary weight, but you free up more power than you would think because the engine isn't always being robbed by this unused accessory. I think that the most important thing you can do to these vehicles is again, regular maintenance. Splurge a little and get the Synthetic oil and K&N air filter, platinum plus 2's, not plus 4's, and change the transmission or hydraulic fluid and filters at least every 25,000 miles.
