1993 Toyota Supra RZ from Australia and New Zealand - Comments

"Excellent performance with great reliability"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

1. Replaced the battery twice.

2. Rear hatch rattle. This drives me nuts!. Apparently this is a common problem on these cars and can be rectified by re-fitting the rear hatch bumpers. I've been informed that these cost $8 each, but can be a nuisance to fit.

3. Small electrical problems. Gear selection light doesn't illuminate. Appears to be only a minor problem. Temp selection light also occasionally fails. Rear brake light strip shows a few bulbs out. Overall these are only minor problems.

4. Jesus handle on passenger side is broken. It was like that when I bought the car.

5. Minor squeaks and interior rattles.

6. CD player fails completely leaving the CD jammed inside. Won't turn on or off. Then miraculously starts working again.

7. Traction control is very annoying at times. I always turn this off.

General comments?

This is an absolutely awesome sports car. For cost effectiveness nothing compares. These cars are now selling in Australia for mid to low 20's. Twin turbo traction control, performance is mind blowing. The sound of the turbo is absolutely awesome. Styling is superb, reliability is excellent. Insurance for younger drivers may be quite high. Occasionally parts can be an issue. For anyone considering purchasing one of these cars... my advice is get one today, you won't be dissapointed. This car is now 10 years old and turns more heads than Wimbledon.

Stock to stock, supra TT will not will. Modified to modified, supra TT will not win. There's just no competition. A twin turbo corvette (callaway) is 220 mph top speed- from factory. A twin turbo supra is 150 mph top speed from the factory. Supra is just not a supercar. Sorry truth hurts- no offense.

Lol at v8 'muscle man' yeah you can have 2million mph street legal cars that suck in the corners still.

Supra is no match to corvette when it comes to sraight line, cornering, slalom, drag... there's just no comparison. What about the vipers, porsche 911 turbo, pantera, ford GT... supra is for teens not pro. All these cars will out corner the supra...

This guy who keeps on coming onto the Supra pages and keeps slagging them off needs to get a life. And why are you so interested in the Supra reviews anyway when all you keep on banging on about is "V8 power".Shouldn't you be writing reviews on them? A bit of jealousy me thinks.

The Supra is a great all round sports car that CAN go round corners.

Here in the USA, Supra is for teens and the " fast and the furious" type of crowd. It's considered here as a " sportscar wannabe." No offense. I know because my son drives one and he's 19 - I bought it for him. Mine is a viper. It blows the supra away. Supra TT lacks torque. After cornering, the big boys pulls away fast- which is hard for the supra to catch up- and I have to floor it and wait for the power. it's not power comand.

My sons freshly tuned 2000 Dodge Viper RT/10 with new flow tubes and Catback exhaust.... yet still came in #2 on the Dyno Board list behind a mod Toyota Supra recently in Jacksonville Fla. Pretty Respectful showing!

To the v8 guy - If supras are so crap, why buy one for your son? and why be so interested in reviews about them? If you want to spend entirely too much money buying something as impracticle as a viper, that's your thing. Here it isn't uncommon to hear of twin turbo supras making upwards of 500kws with the right mods. (for a lot cheaper than a supercar I might add) Bottom line, everyone has their own preference when it comes to cars, no point trying to convert people, that's just ignorant. 'Truth hurts.'
