"14 years old and still kicking!!"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Steering had to be fixed ($8)

Steering wheel column bolt replaced (??)

Power lock had to be replaced ($5)

Glove box had to be replaced ($25)

Window gear replaced (??)

Tires need rotation/replacement still.

General comments?

I bought this truck to replace my 1992 Plymouth Laser (that I destroyed on Halloween night...). I payed $1,500, figuring that it would last a year or so. It was a little beat up, but the roof liner and the windshield were replaced by the dealership for free.

The only true problem was the steering going out. Part of the steering was about gone, if it wasn't replaced I would have completely lost steering while driving. That was a total of $8 and 20 minutes.

The rest of the problems are due to previous owners neglect. This truck seriously kicks some butt. Better acceleration than my POS car had, plenty of room for my dual subs, and a little seat modification allowed me to put my 4-way and mono amps on the back of my front seats (they can't be seen at all, and heat is no problem). I was planning on purchasing a newer Blazer (or possibly a Tahoe), but I might keep this one for a while. All it needs is a new paint job and some nice big FAT tires. I hope Chevy lives up to the reputation they have created. It would suck to drive by a broken down 2003 in 10 years with my 1989 Blazer :P.

Well in comments to your post. I have a 1989 S-10 Blazer with 232,000 miles. I bought new with 10 miles off the dealership. Miles were test driven only, mine were 5 I believe. The first month I had the flywheel and starter replaced because of warpage (warranty). At 38,000 the valve seals were beginnig to wear, blue smoke at start-up (oil). At 40,000 they were replaced (warranty). Repainted 1.5 years later, losey dealership repaint, (mr.goodwrench, Pasadena, Ca) Waterpump replace (2x) including one that the dealership put in that was faulty (mr.goodwrench, San Gabriel, Ca). A couple of alternators and radiator. At 100,000 miles I put in a inline transcooler and an engine oil cooler. The car was running hot, all this because of a bad radiator. Yes I changed the coolant and thermostat, but forgot to clean the radiator cooling tubes lines fins. (stupid me, back yard mechanic!) Also had the steering coloum tighten (2). The 2nd time had to take it back a few times because they!@#! didn't do the job correctly (mr.goodwrench, San Gabriel, Ca) But all in all, I agree with you that this has been a very strong little SUV!!! And I also would hate to buy something new and get hosed on it. Especially with the outlandish prices and insurance rates! I would love to stay with an American vehicle, but unfortunately the OVERALL VALUE of non domestic vehicles seems to be more in the price range of us regular "joes"!!!

There is more about my SUV, but those are the major things that have been done. Bye.

I also have an 89 s10 tahoe 2wh/dr blazer in which just amazes me still today. It has its quirks, idles rough, but doesn't miss a lick when you throttle it. It has always been dependable and still looks good to be an 89. I recently bought an 01 gmc sonoma with 4.3 V-6 eng. and can only hope I get the service out got out of blazer. Someone offered me $1050.00 last week for it and I felt insulted. Doug. dgillis001@comcast.net please email any comments.
