The paint on the top portions of the truck have oxidized badly. The oxidization started to occur in 1998. It appears that the clear coat has failed. I asked the dealer what the procedure was for a problem like this. They would do nothing to help or compensate for the problem I don't believe that the paint should have done this, in this amount of time. I have spoken to a couple of other owners that have had the same problem occur with their Isuzu Rodeos.
The manufacturer should take a look at helping to replace the paint on the vehicle. Other car manufacturers have had this problem and have paid part of the paint costs.
I have a 1991 Rodeo. It has been an awesome vehicle. I've had it for about 9 years and put very little money into it and it's almost at 300,000 km! (I am Canadian)
HOWEVER... I have had the same oxidization problem with the paint. It started several years ago and has gotten increasingly worse. (It is black and going "gray" with age!) I went to a dealer about it and they flat our REFUSED to accept any responsibility for it, trying to tell me it had been re-painted (which it had not).
Interesting that SO MANY of these particular SUVS have this problem... hmmm.
I have a 1993 Rodeo and it has the same paint problem. Can it be fixed with a simple maco paint job or is it something that would be far more expensive to fix?
I have a '92 rodeo that I have had for 3 years and it had the same problem going from red to pink. In 2002 I was in a wreck, and had a new pant job along with the repairs. Thinking that the fade would be taken care of, however it is now the same that it was before the paint job. The only thing that I have been informed of to prevent this is keeping the wax job current (min. of 2 wax jobs per year). With my paint job already so faded I don't know if it really works.
