2002 Volkswagen Polo Comfortline from Norway - Comments

"Never again"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

ABS and ESP lamp turned on while driving (after 15 days and 600 km). Fixed by the dealer in just 30 min.

Speaker on the drivers side turned off and on (after 20 days and 900 km).

Replaced by the dealer after some discussions.

The car didn`t start when it was cold (after 45 days and 4000 km). The VW dealer told it was engine problem (they used 2 days to find and fix the problem).

This is just a sample. More problems (though small and fixed by VW) have occured later.

General comments?

Down sides: A lot of small irritating problems and one major breakdown.

Pluss side: All problems where fixed rapidly and never accured again. When the car stayed at VW dealer for daytime repares, VW drove me to work and back.

At all repairs overnight I got a free replacement car.

Conclusion: I love to drive this car, but love doesn`t fix problems.

I've bought the current model of Polo Comfortline 1,4 (manufactured in Slovakia) last month (July 2004.) and I have driven about 2650 km.

Here are the problems listed by types and numbers of occurrences:

1. Engine problems: NONE

2. In car computer problems: NONE

3. Passenger back seat problems: NONE

4. Sudden stops every 100 km: NONE

5. Front speaker strange noise: NONE

6. ABS problems: NONE

7. Air conditioner problems: NONE

8. Electrical window opener malfunction: NONE

9. Severe and often ignition problems: NONE.

Oil needs to be replaced at 15000 km, but it is advisable to change it at 7500 km for the first time due to oil filters that are clogged with smal particles of metal when motor is new.

All in all I am very satisfied with it and I think it's a high quality car.

I just bought a brand new Polo 2005 with a 2.0 motor. 1000 Kms driven already and I have had no problems at all. It is a pleasure to drive this car, as it has McPherson suspension, and feels almost like my uncle's BMW 320i. The power steering is electro-hydraulic and feels excellent. Acceleration 0-100 kms is assured in less than the specified by manufacturer.

Volkswagen has given excellent service, although special care has to be taken in the first 500 kms to the car so you can ensure the rest of its motor's life. Drive it like an old man the first 1000 kms, and this car will be fine for the first 140,000 kms.

My 5th Volkswagen in a row, and will never go to another brand, I had a couple of Ford sedans in the middle, and I will never go out of VW again...

I still own a 2003 comfortline VW Polo. Car has a difficulty starting in the mornings when weather is cold. This problem started when car was 6 month in my possesion (brand new) that is during our first winter here in Southern Europe. Dealer attempted to fix it several times every winter without any success. Yes, I did get stuck with a lemon and now I am forced to park it in a garage or cover the hood every night during the winter... I have counted over 6 times that car was taken to more than one dealers. I stopped taking it in and instead I keep it in the sun or I heat the engine with a hot air unit and car will usually start after an hour. I will never buy another VW again. Thanks you...
