"A good fun car"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

The boot seal leaked until I fixed it.

With some silicone.

Rear right door doesn't always lock.

Requires new actuator.

General comments?

The car is seriously quick for a six

and will beat any eighties V8's easily

as well as VN, VR, VT, VX and VY sixes

in a straight line, only the VS is

faster as it has a better power to

weight ratio.

The car is dangerous in the wet if it

not treated with respect and some

caution when cornering and taking off.

The car's main problem is its body-roll

up the back which I will rectify soon.

The car is very reliable and I usually get about 450km from 45 - 50 liters of fuel which is very good considering I drive the car fairly hard most of the time.

Overall It is a great car to drive with the fun of a 5speed manual and an awesome sound system.

Autos are rubbish.

I feel the same way about autos vowing never to buy another, but I couldnt go past the power and price of this immaculate vp I picked up for only $2500 with 12 months rego off an old lady who wanted something smaller. I'm keen to get it converted to manual and wondered if you bought yours auto and got it converted. if so can you recommend anyone for the job. comment from your review.

Dude its not worth converting your auto to manual.

For one it is quite costly and you could screw your car up if not done correctly. My advice is to buy a factory manual. They are worth the extra money!!

You say that your vp is quicker than the vn commodore. I'm sure the vn would be lighter due to the crappy build quality and gmh actually changed the gearing for the vn series 1.5 because the original vn auto was too quick in intitial acceleration.

VP Autos aren't rubbish at all. Sure manuals are more fun, but my auto VP has flogged manual VP's and VN's off the mark numerous times. You've just got to make sure it's in drive not overdrive - so 4th gear is excluded. Manuals too often suffer from too much wheel spin. I am confident my relatively standard auto would thrash your manual anytime.

I have an auto VP which is standard and have been in one of my mates manual vn v6 (Stock) and it was a completely different story, the manual matches the torque range of the car a lot better and you can obviously run out the gears much longer therefore in 'theory' are quicker!

But to find out take them down the dragstrip, get your Quarter mile times and that's that.
