1994 Dodge Intrepid from North America - Comments

"Had it's fair share of problems, mine has been faithful to me"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Transmission overhauled at 65,000

headlight assembly both sides had siezed bolts

driver side door seals on bottom starting to fall off

a/c leaking, has new compressor, condensor/belts don't stay tight

hood air shocks don't support hood anymore, have to prop it up.

General comments?

I must say I'm satisfied with my base model, it had its typical intrepid problems including transmission and a/c, but I've managed to get by with the a/c problem even though it's a major headache recharging it all the time during the summer. I trust my car, it has not let me down and I believe it's been a reliable one for me for it being 10 years old, I plan on selling it this year for a ford though, chrysler should of done more to help us out with all the typical problems, but ohwell, what can you do?

My 1994 Interpid has 111K on it and 6 winters in Buffalo, New York. Major repairs have been

1) A transmission overhaul at 50K due to factory defect.

2) The ball joints/control arms have been replaced twice.

3) A head gasket replacement was necessary at 110K.

4) An ignition pick up sensor failure stranded me on the road at 60K.

5) Water pump had to be replaced at 82K.

Minor Repairs

1) Door/Body seals replaced due to cracking and falling off body.

2) Airconditioning unit needs a charge every year yet no leak can be found.

3) The hood release cable snapped twice.

4) The headlamp torz head screws seized requiring cutting to change the head lamp.

5) 3 oxygen sensors and and an EGR valve had to be changed.

Overall for a car that's 11 years old, it runs great and is one of the few cars that my 6'6" frame can comfortably fit in.

I love my car. My 94 Intrepid 3.3L has 156,000KM Other than normal vehicle maintenance, the only work needed on this vehicle was a water pump and a right front bearing. I have just had the cluster module fail - 320.00cdn. Small price to pay when my three teenagers can sit in the back and NOT complain about touching each other. Awesome gas mileage and a very comfortable ride. I spend a great deal of time on the highway (in the fast lane) and feel safe and secure every trip!! Did I mention I love my car?

Overall very good car. I have 100100 miles and am unsure whether to replace it. however:Upon purchase the trunk wheel well collected water, the repair was extensive and successful. Car stalled every time at 20000 miles when raining and turning hard left or right, after 4 dealer visits and no computer code errors noted, I replaced the throttle sensor and the problem hasn't come back. The eagle GA radials were terrible, each tire picked up any nail or small penetrating object on the highway numerous times, the Michelin radials (now third set) have been great. Replaced the front disc brakes at 42000 miles and the mechanic almost passed out when replacing the rear discs for the first time at 72000 miles. Transmission coolant lines rotted at 60,000, replaced, saved the transmission. door moldings tend to come loose, I just glued them and are OK. Power steering has started to whine, a flush fixed the problem. I really can't complain. I do change the oil every 3500 to 5000 miles, lubricate anything movable, align and spin balance the tires every 7000 to 10000 miles etc. All services are performed by the cheapest, lowest priced shop advertising in the local paper. Good luck!
