I had to replace the carburetor at 150000.
The speedometer light does not work. I cannot see how fast I am going at night.
The passenger door behind the driver occasionally does not work.
The first owner had to replace the transmission.
I am always on the freeway, and for the car's sheer size, it can handle exceptionally well at 80mph.
I can easily fit all 4 of my snow tires in the trunk of the car.
The seats are extremely comfortable and can comfortably fit 6 people within it.
I recently bought a 1979 Oldsmobile Delta 88 Royale for $750. The interior is not in the best condition, but the engine seems to be running strong. I'm glad to see that everyone on this site is satisfied with this year and model. The odometer reads at 88,000, but then again it only has enough digits for under 100,000. I hope to use the car for the remainder of my high school career and throughout college.
I have a 1979 oldsmobile delta 88 as well. Originally purchased in Arizona, its made its way to me in Alberta Canada and I'm the 3rd owner. This car is awsome, I love it so much. It's like driving a sofa, the most comfortable ride I've ever been in. All my friends love it.
Had to replace a lot of things though, but due to its age, I can accept the fact. Had to refurbish the rad, replace the starter coil, water pump, replaced the heater fan, alternator, redid the ceiling myself after water damage, rebuilt a damaged tranny (my fault, accidentally flipped it into reverse while driving forward when trying to put it into neutral to stop faster cause my brake line burst. The tranny still worked after that, but I wanted it fixed), replaced the belts. so yea some money has been put into it, but the engine is in such good shape. runs awsome.
Pros: so comfy, nice ride, runs well for its age
cons: I can see it nickle diming in 5 years time, and the fuel economy is awful, so I have to sell it soon.
