ICP sensor failure (causes rough idle and surging stops and starts) at 940 miles.
ICP sensor failure again at 1400 miles (Ford revised the ICP after I got a new "old style" one installed)
Numerous Software updates have been issued for this truck, though updates are only installed if you have a problem. I've had 2 PCM re-flashes with updated software.
The 2003 model trucks still have what I call "ford wonder" steering. It isn't a pull, but more of a loose / sloppy stearing responce sort of feeling that requires constant driver imput.
I'm getting noticeably more wind noise then the 2001 ford SD's had, but I'm not sure if maybe it's just more noticeable due to the engine being so much quieter then the 7.3 Power Stroke Diesel.
Bought a 2003 f350 dully 4X4 crew cab lariat on 05/31/03. so far the steering box has been replaces (real stiff with free play at the center) at 4 miles, took it in for a engine oil leak at the bell housing. At 311 miles Thy replaced 5 injectors said to be leaking causing the leak. Thy test drove for 150 miles?
At 540 miles the bell housing oil leak is still leaking and a new brake fluid leak under the master cylinder. what next?
Maybe proper english can be next?
October 14th, 2007. I just bought a 2003 F350 Crew Cab Diesel in July 07. Found it on Ebay. White, six inch lift. Sunroof, backup sensors, leather. 118,000 miles. Flew from Vegas to Phoenix and drove it back. I've been in love ever since. The gas mileage on the way back consistently raised all the way home ending up at 18mpg. Since then in the city, I'm getting 11.3 miles per gallon. September 28th, it just stopped running at a light. Had it towed in to a reputable Diesel Mechanic in Vegas as the dealer is worthless. (Do you know that if their service managers don't make their "quota" on the money they bring into their service dept., they fire them and get someone who will rip you off better?) Have a family friend that works there. Nice huh? Anyway, the oil pump down near the turbo went. Two full work benches of parts to get to it next to the turbo. Found two pieces of debris they had no clue on how they got in there. One piece I swear was a piece of broken tempered glass that was well worn on the edges and finally pushed through the screen filter and jammed the pump. I am thinking this piece of glass was in the motor for some time. Maybe even since new. I don't know. All I know is that I had them replace every piece of rubber and plastic when they put everything back together and there were many updates pieces that went in. Bottom line, I spent $2,000 on the truck before I even registered it. I think it was a fluke that these pieces ended up in there. The pump didn't just go out, it was jammed. I'm still happy with the truck and hope for a few hundred thousand miles on it without much trouble. I bought it to convert to run on Waste Vegetable Oil. Will be converting soon. I crunched the numbers and it will take me about seven years and the truck will be paid for with the money I save on fuel. Restaurants have to pay to get rid of their old waste oil. I have four of them willing to give it to me now. This will be a free truck. Hopefully trouble free.
