Engine light came on at 80,000 miles, tuned car up, can't find switch to shut off Check engine light. Runs fine.
The same thing with the Check Engine light happened with me... It came on at exactly 80,000 miles. I had it checked when I got an oil change, the mechanic said he could not find anything wrong with it, seems to run fine.. would not shut off even after battery was disconnected! Overall, I love my little 4X4, so I don't mind the light (as long as it runs like it should).
The geo trackers have a switch behind the speaker under the dash that's a toggle switch.. It is scheduled to come on at 80,000 miles just as a check up.. Take off the cover to the speaker and you will find a toggle switch in there jsut switch it over and walla the light is off!!
The 80K sensor light means the oxygen sensor needs to be changed out.
It was helpful learning about the cancel switch under the dash. I didn't even need to take off the speaker cover. I just popped out the panel under the steering column and it was right there! Last time, it cost me $70 to get that thing turned off. This time it cost me 5 minutes of time. Love that.
The 80K light switch is not always true. It could come on any time. Mine came on at 50K and my car is running just fine. It may not be the switch under the speaker cover or under the steering wheel cover, it could just be the wiring. That is what happened to my vehicle.
This just happened to me. I have a 1993 Geo Tracker. I noticed this "Check Engine" light at 80,001. I just got off the phone with the Chevy/Geo dealer; I had asked if the Check Engine light came on at any certain mileage. He insisted that no, it did not, and that I should have my car looked at right away (at a cost of $65). I just found came across this web site through Yahoo (searched on Tracker Check Engine 80000) and saw that indeed this Check Engine light comes on at 80,000. My husband popped off the speaker cover, hit the toggle switch, and all is well. I am so happy to have found this web site!!! Thanks for writing of your experience!

I have a 1995 Geo Tracker what does the switch look like to turn the check engine light off? Is it a toggle switch or a push button switch? I took speaker on drivers side out and did not notice a switch? Thanks.
My 95 has 156000 K's and the light has not come on. It runs great and have had no problems. Has everyone had their steering checked as there was a recall. Just take your serial # to a GM dealer and have it checked for any outstanding recall notices that have not been done.
The check engine light on my '94 Tracker went on at 50,000 miles, 80,000 miles, and 100,000 miles. The first two times I paid to get it reset. The third time I tried using the switch behind the left speaker to reset it, but that didn't work, so I have given up on turning it off. Car now has 184,000 miles and is still going fine.

Hey no way it worked it took me a min to find it, but it is on the right side of the left speaker you can't see that it's a switch and, but it is screwed to the plactic.
I have a 1995 Geo Tracker that I bought a year ago in December and like everyone else my light was on also when I bought it and it has run fine for over a year, but I woke up this morning at 9:30 to find my geo in flames. I don't know if it has anything to do when the light, but now I have a geo burnt to the ground in front of my house, so just beware and have it double checked, because you never know it might be more than just a safety precaution, there may be something really wrong with it. I have a 91 tracker with the check engine light on. I looked several times behind both speakers and cannot find that switch. Was the older tracker differant? What should I do?
I too have a 1991 Tracker and cannot find the reset switch behind the left speaker or behind the pop-off plastic panel under the steering wheel. HELP!!
