"Smooth engine. Distinctive looks. High maintenance, parts and insurance costs"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Front suspension spring broke! Not covered under warranty.

Rear brake calipers stuck. Not covered under warranty.

Front Fog light broken, and VERY expensive to replace (over 200 pounds)

Engine tappet noise at startup (for several minutes). Only cured by using Mobil 1 oil at each oil change (EXPENSIVE!)

Main dealer unwilling to fix **anything** under warranty.

General comments?

Very smooth engine, smooth ride.

Pretty good performance.

Nice (distinctive) shape.

Poor steering feedback (Steering has a 'stretching rubber band' feel to it!).

Very poor seat adjustment (with electric drivers seat). The drivers seat ALWAYS felt uncomfortable!

Very poor headlights (they look nice, but don't light up the road properly).

Parts, servicing and insurance are EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE!!!

I have had a BMW 5 series (new shape) for about three years (since selling the Mazda) and the insurance, parts and servicing cost are about half that of the Mazda!

Yes, but with the Mazda you had that bit of exclusivity.

Hi. I just got a 2 l v6, and the insurance was less than my rover 216 coupe! the car is on a par to drive with my brother in laws jaguar x type, but for peanuts money. of course, I haven't had any servicing bills yet!

My xedos 6 2.0 v6 SE cost me £2000 with 80,000 miles on the clock.

It’s fast and unique with a hell of a lot of luxury extras for £2000 or less, with a higher life expectancy than most upper market cars.

People that know nothing about cars or have no choice go for Vauxhall, Rover or Ford. It’s usually the same people that say Mazda is for hairdressers, but I think the Japanese have established themselves as the best performance and quality cars that are mass-produced, that must suggest that hairdressers know their cars.

PS. Last service cost £60.

After two years and one replaced brake caliper I can't really complain about the cost of running this car, Must agree with the steering issue (very light compared to my last cars) Saab Turbo and a Honda Prelude.

But two points that stand out when owning a Xedos are its stunning Alfa type looks and the pleasure in driving a car that nobody else in your postcode drives.
