My under body started to spring leaks all over the place. I mean every seal, gasket etc. This happened 3,000 miles after purchase. $3,600 covered by Warranty. 63,000 miles.
My interior lighting went crazy, off and on, and on and off. 2 Dealers later and no effort to find problem and no solution at this point. 70,000 miles.
Power windows in back seat have gone down on their own. Very concerned with electrical system at this point. Getting electrical shocks when I touch the car. Dealer says nothing wrong. 74,000 miles.
Transmission went at 76,000 miles. $2,000 fix.
Engine knock and believed Engine rod problem. I don't even want to know. 80,000 miles. For Sale.
I also have a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee which I purchased about 8 months ago. I really like this vehicle. Compared to the 1992 Grand Am I have been driving for 5 years this truck is a dream.. I too have had severe problems with shock when I enter and exit this vehicle. I thought maybe it was just me. I noticed also that the interior lights on the dash will flicker every once in a while and my back up lights do not work. I have had several mechanics look at it and tell me nothing is wrong still it is a little concerning to know that someone else had the same issues. I recently noticed that the trany will run to 3,000RPM and then I let off the gas as if to shift it and it drops to normal.
Overall I still love this thing and I would purchase another one just brand new next time. I think it always helps when you are the first owner because you know your vehicle better.
Good luck with the next purchase.
It sounds like you have a ground problem. The shifting could be the speed shift sensor on the right rear of the transmission. The dealer should be able to pull the codes off of the computer. If he can't then you need to take it to someone that knows what they're doing.
I have a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee which just blew an engine. It looks as if it threw a rod out the side of the engine block and also cracked the exhaust manifold. My main repair facility and also the dealer said they have never seen something like this happen before.
The car has only 80,000 miles, young considering that this engine has a reputation for lasting well into the 200,000 mile range.
Any suggestions or ways that I can deal with Chrysler on this.
The car has been maintained every 3,000 miles. My replacement re-manufactured engine and repairs is costing $5,000.
Reading reviews on jeeps, family had one when I was young '84 cherokee chief select trak, which was a pre-chrysler model. I am concerned about the tranny problems my mom has had with another chrysler product a 92 LHS which has had 2 tranny's replaced since she bought it new. have been leery of their transmissions as it seems the engineering department at chrysler doesn't mind the issues with a major piece of equipment. big clunky downshifts if vehicle is doing anything, but a slow... stop I mean slow. shifts up fine, but has real issues on downshifting $$$ 2500 the first time, 8 yrs ago. $1505.81 3 days ago. bought car for 16,000 even. that's almost a 33% repair cost on the price of the vehicle. do your research it literally pays... just a heads up I still love jeeps.
I used to own a Ford Thunderbird, and I would get shocked upon exiting. I always thought it was static electricity. It didn't happen all the time, and seemed to happen more with certain clothes. Maybe that's why the dealer can't find anything.
I have a 98 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo. The vehicle runs good most of the time, but at no particular time stalls. Sometimes it will start right up, other times it takes a while. It has been in the shop several times and no one can tell me what the problem is. Replaced computer, cam sensor, oxygen sensor etc., etc.
Has anybody solved this problem?
I brought my keep three months ago and come to fine out the the air bags had a recall on the make year of a 1999! Which was the year I had and the dealer did not tell me so I'm going to get car without an recall!
