I really haven't had any significant problems with this car at all. The only things that I have had to replace thus far have been my own fault, except for one.
For example, I was doing donuts in the snow and I threw my tire balance off, but that was because of my own stupidity.
I have also had numerous interior pieces break. But again, I was making custom modifications and learned the hard way how the pieces fit together.
The only thing I haven't been able to figure out is with my daytime running lamps. At approximately 15,000 miles, my running lamps wouldn't come on when I started the car. The indicator on the gauge cluster would come on for about 15 seconds, during which time the fog lights would flash on and off. This would also happen if I released my parking brake, but all of these situations would only present themselves if I had my lights set on the parking light setting. Weird. I think it may be a problem with the relay, but I haven't figured that one out yet.
Aside from mechanical problems, I have only been disappointed with one thing, and that is the suspension. I expected more out of such a sporty little car. There is quite a bit of body flex, and the springs aren't too tough around corners.
For being a 4 cylinder engine rated at 124 horsepower, this car has some serious kick. I have beaten several cars in the same category, in addition to some you wouldn't expect. This growing list ranges from Civics and Eclipses to Trailblazers and V6 Mustangs. Since I got this car, I have slowly been building up the engine, and I would imagine I've got between 150-160 horsepower now.
The interior is very comfortable, but the back seat is out of the question. Then again, I believe that almost any 2 door compact shouldn't even bother with back seats. I have never been too impressed with such.
The car looks very sporty over all, and I catch bystanders looking every once in a while.
Finally, this car is not classified as a sports car, so the insurance is very low. Excellent choice for an unsuspectingly fun and fast ride.
Get a Venom 400. It will give you about 200HP!
I live in southern alberta. I wanted a good newer car so I went to the dealership. They were going to sell me a 2002 sc1 3 dr for only $12,000 with taxes and everything. But when I went to get insurance it was going to cost me $340 a month!! Canada classifies this car a sport car. there was only 10,000 kms on the odometer also they were going to give me an extended warranty for free.
I was only 16 at the time, but still 340 a month for a car.
CANADIAN INSURANCE IS A FRAUD.
That's weird, I live in Canada, and I only pay $105/mo for insurance.
HA, I live in the USA and only pay $150 a mounth for full coverage.
I live in Ontario and I pay 75$ a month for insurance.
I live in the US, I'm not married or 25 yet and I pay $67/mo for full coverage on my '04 Lancer Sportback.
Damn! I own 2 Saturns and pay $280 every 6 Months!!!
(Just liability as I own them both free and clear)
I pay $41 per month in Ontario, Canada. That's the beauty of driving a used car under $3000 (no need for collision) and never having a ticket whatsoever or accident. Combine all that with a reliable car that gets 30+ mpg, and your laughing all the way to the bank!
