"Good truck, when it starts"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Water pump replaced at 100000 miles.

Very frequently, at least once a month the truck decides not to start. After about 10 minutes I would try to start it and it would usually then start.

General comments?

The engine had decent power when I had the 32in tires on, but when I upgraded and put the 33in tires on I lost a significant amount of power.

For a 2wd this truck does well off road and will not let me down.

When it starts it is a good truck, but it is not very reliable.

My Ranger does the same thing. I wonder if you have found out the problem or if anyone else has the problem and has figured it out?

I received my father's 94 Ford Ranger upon reaching 16. The truck has about 107 thousand miles on it and has never been in the shop nor had a tune up. The truck is very reliable as long as you take good care of it. The only problem that my father and I have had with it just recently came about with the brake pads. All considering though the truck is the most reliable vehicle I've ever driven.

I own a '94 Ford Ranger 2.3L. Recently it killed on the highway and I had it towed to my house. I had Bosch platinum spark plugs installed. on the 3rd cylinder the ceramic core of the spark plug shot out of the metal threads. I took off the heads and discovered a blown head gasket. The gasket had been melted at the 3rd cylinder and the metal ring on the gasket actually curved inward. I have no idea what went wrong. If the heads are warped I don't know why the plug would shoot out. If it's a bad plug, why would the gasket blow. This type of engine has two plugs per cylinder and I wish someone could help me figure out this problem. I love the truck its got over 140,000 miles on it and it is a great ride. If anyone can help please email me dk4130bmx@hotmail.com Thanks a lot.

This is for you people that have the problem with your 94 Ranger not wanting to start, but after sitting for 10 minutes or so it starts right up. I have the 4.0L engine. I was fighting this problem for a few months when one day I got lucky to have it act up while I had my voltmeter in my hand. It was not getting switched supply voltage to the ignition module mounted in the front end in front of the battery. I cleaned the module to chassis ground lug and replaced the relay ($2-$20 part depending where you shop) that supplies the power to the module and have been trouble free for a year. I am extremely hard on things and every Ford especially my rangers very rarely let me down.

I have a 1994 Ranger, 3L, truck was starting to lose power, then after a while had no power at all, tried everything, but could not figure it out, then it just died on me. just found out that 1 of their problems is the gear on the distributor wears out. took it apart, and it was stripped. replaced it, works just like new. if anybody else has this problem, pretty sure its the gear wearing out.e-mail me at jasonblinn01@hotmail.com if you have any questions.

For those of you with starting problems be advised that you can't use auto parts starters cus they are not shielded enough. I've had two Ford trucks that did the same thing with me until I found out that the starters are pretty close to the block and need time to cool down unless they are Ford shielded starters. Get a real Ford starter and I bet the problem will be fixed. Besides, virtually all Ford parts--while they do cost more initially--are warranteed better than anything out there. Good luck!

My Ford Ranger XLT was given to me brand spankin new as a Co. work truck. The Boss and I went to the dealer together and picked it out. I work construction, i drive all over the southern california area. My truck has 308,000 miles on it, so far changed the water pump, transmission, rad.,starter.Five sets of tires. This is the most reliable truck in the fleet. I love this truck.
