When I bought this car, it had not been maintained very well, so lots of things needed simple replacement: radiator core, steering box, muffler, brakes. But even when those things wore out, it never left me stranded, and since those parts were replaced it has not given me any trouble for a year.
Well, it's big, loud, and basically a monster. It's also a hideous shade of 70's yellow, which is why it's name is Old Yeller. Uses lots of (92-octane) gas, but makes up for it with acceleration that scares BMWs. It also has lots of room inside and a huge trunk. My friends call it the Pimpmobile but I like to think of it as a big, comfy muscle car.
Cadillacs from the 1970s are the greatest cars in the history of the world. No other cars had bigger, more powerful engines in such cool body styles.... Cadillac is king!
I agree that there are few cars better than a late 60's early 70's Caddy. Though I don't like the ones from 73 onwards much because of the "energy absorbing bumpers" and pollution control devices on the engines. I owned a 72 sedan before and loved it so much I'm trying to acquire another one again.
I recently became a Cadillac fan when I purchased a 1973 Sedan deVille from the original owner in Florida (I live in Virginia). I saw the car for sale online for what seemed like a great price. I made a few calls, sent several emails and got a detailed description from the owner. I took a chance, flew to Florida and drove the Caddy all the way home (950 miles). I ran it at 70-75 mph most of the way with the AC going for 90% of the trip. This car ran and drove as well as a new car. Smooth, quiet and powerful. I couldn't believe it. I've had it for a month now and I still can't believe how nice this car rides and drives. I'm sold.
My parents bought a low mileage 73' coupe deville in 76' and had that car for ten years. That car was not in the shop one time and since they sold it, they've had nothing, but trouble with their cars. I now have my grandfathers 77' and as a GM driveability tech I can tell you, keep your caddy.
I just purchased a 1973 Cadillac Sedan Deville. I will never drive anything else. It is one of the most beautiful automobiles in my opinion. Perhaps it is an acquired taste, but the boats from the seventies just look really good and drive even better. I use mine as a daily driver and I have had zero problems with it so far (except for a tiny oil leak, which is expected from a car older than I am!) I'll tell you what, driving around town I get a lot of looks. This car has more class in just its fender than ANY cars out there, with the exceptions of maybe the late 60's Caddys and Lincs.
I have a 1973 Sedan Deville. To describe it in one word: beautiful. If you want to turn heads and have comments made about your car everywhere you go, then get a 73 Lac. People from all walks of life tell me all the time how beautiful my car is and I've been asked so many times what year it is, I had to put a personalized plate on it that reads "1973". If I was going to recommend a car to someone, it would have to be a '60 Impala... then a '73 Sedan Deville. It doesn't get much better than those two!
