At 3,000 miles, the thermostat went causing the car to overheat and almost blow the engine. At 25,000 the center shaft in the steering mechanism went. At 40,000 miles, the transmission needed a major repair done. Today, at 57,000 miles, the steering mechanism went again, this time causing the power sterring to fail, almost causing me to have an accident.
These are only the major things, there have been lots of little, minor things too. Mine also experiences the flickering headlights. All in all, I do love the car, but I think for the money I paid, I got ripped off big time. I am thoroughly disgusted. I've always kept this car perfectly maintained and cleaned; the interior and exterior looks great. For the short 3 years I've had this car, it's cost me a lot of money.
On this page of less than 10 reviews, I've noticed 2 that claimed the power steering went on their Oldsmobile Intrigue at around 56,000 miles. Mine went last week at 57,000. Of course, GM wiped their hands of it- even though this seems to be a chronic problem. A company with any amount of honesty would issue a recall.
I just took my 2002 Intrigue (brand new when I purchased it) in at 35,000 miles for the steering column. It was replaced last July 2003 and went back in for the same problem. There is a knocking sound when making right or left turns and when the speed reduces to 30mph or less. I have my Intrigue in the shop more times in the past almost 2 years, than my 94' FORD Mustang that I bought brand new and owned for 8 years. Very disappointed.
