The compressor that makes the air conditioner work went out at approximately 30,000 miles. The cost for repair for this is over $1,000.00.
The brakes, front and rear, went out at 43,000 miles. Not only did the brakes go out, but the calipers on the brakes fell off. This was a $500.00 repair.
The dipstick that checks the oil in the engine indicates no oil in the vehicle after less than 3,000 miles since the last oil change. This is at the current 44,000 miles. Cost for repair unknown at this time.
The driver side window came off track, only allowing the window to be rolled up if it is manually pushed back into place. This is at the current 44,000 miles. Cost for repair unknown at this time.
The blower for the air conditioner and heater quits working at times, and only starts working again if switches that control the outside/recirculate air are moved back and forth. This happened at approximately 35,000 miles.
One of the back seats does not lock into place when folded forward. This happened at approximately 25,000 miles.
This is the worst car I have ever owned. I have never seen a car that is this new, with this low of miles, have so many problems, amounting in so much cost to repair. I should've NEVER veered from Hondas.
That's too bad. Sounds like you got a lemon. My '93 LS has 134,000 miles and I haven't had any of those problems. Just normal wear like the starter. You could have very well gotten a lemon by staying with Honda's. I've owned my Trooper for 4 years, and I'm planning on getting another Trooper next time.
Definitely a Lemon. I have had a lemon (not an Isuzu) before and when I spoke to other owners of the same type vehicle, they had none of the problems I had experienced. Sounds like you got a bad one. Sorry to hear about that. I can understand how you feel. Especially since I am a Honda owner and an Isuzu owner! Honda's just never let you down, period.
It sounds like you may have inadvertently purchased a vehicle that was previously wrecked or salvaged. The types of problems that you have experienced are indicative of your Trooper being put back together poorly after an accident. Have you done a vehicle history check such as CarFax?
Wouldn't this vehicle, and most of the items you mentioned still be under warranty?? I have a 97 Rodeo, and my basic warranty was good for 50K miles.
I had this problem too!! the fan blower under the glove box is going out!! it's an easy fix to do yourself just takes a phillips screwdriver and about five min, the part is about 50 bucks us at a discount auto parts store.
I also had a problem with my 98 Isuzu Trooper, it was burning oil excessively. I always checked it until one day the main bearings burned up!! I t has only 68000 miles and I've herd that many trooper in this years model have had the same problem!!! DO NOT BUY!! IF YOU DO CHECK THE OIL TWICE A DAY.. HA HA!!!
I own a Trooper, it hasn't had one single problem for the past few years I had it. You must have gotten a lemon because everyone I know that owns Troopers have had none of these problems. All of my friends and I go four wheeling in our troopers and beat them around, still no problems. Sorry you had bad experience with Isuzu. : (
I too own a 2000 Trooper, I've been back to the dealer one time in the nearly five years since buying it new. That was for a sensor on the exhaust system. Other than routine maintenance, that is it. I have 60,000 miles and still running great on factory brakes, battery, alternat0r, I will be doing the timing belt and water pump replacement soon. After knowing several Trooper owners with many years and many trouble free miles, including a neighbor with a 84' that had 245,000 miles and still running strong. As far as the person with all the problems, it sounds like a bad recondition job. Troopers are known around the world for dependability. Buy with confidence.
I bought a 98 Trooper at 48000 miles 2 yrs ago and what begin as a good investment has turned out to be oil burning nightmare. The engine check light and the oil consumption is keeping me off the road and at the repair shop. Isuzu should be held accountable for some of the problems we are having with these vehicles. Instead they stick it to us every time we take them in for repairs. This is my first and last Isuzu. I am at 61000 miles now and I will get rid my Trooper soon.
What a shame. I have an 88,now with 97 thousand miles, and it's the 4 cyl.Yeah, I put a new head on it, and head gasket, but learn tot do the work yourself or take someone who knows to the garage with you. This could save you bucks!!!I love my trooper and would buy even another 4 cyl with a blown head gasket!!!
I have owned a 2000 Isuzu Trooper for a year and a half. It had about 78,000 miles on it when we bought it, but it still runs like new with about 90,000 miles on it. I just recently bought another one for my wife. Since they both are Arizona cars, we haven't had any major problems with ours. The only problem was when the air conditioner was not running right because the air conditioner was over charged with too much refrigerant. I have pulled a large tent trailer up steep mountain grades in 110-degree heat without a towing package and never had any problems with anything. I believe that the Trooper is a tough and reliable vehicle from top to bottom. Sounds to me like you got one that was poorly reconditioned from a wreck. I would recommend getting a Car-Fax report on your next car. This will tell you whether you are buying a lemon or not.
My 99 trooper has 69000 miles and I recently pulled the wheels to check the brakes. The pads are still original. The rear pads were about half gone while the front pads looked new. Is this normal. I have noticed that my braking is not the best and difficult to lock up wheels for the anitlock to engage.
I have a 1998 Isuzu Trooper, I had it for 3 years. Everything was running well, until I started smelling something burning from underneath the hood, I lifted the hood and check the oil, there was no oil!!! The funny thing is I just had an oil change two weeks prior, so there was no way for that truck to use all that oil. Everyday before I crank my truck, I have to check the oil. I have to add oil every week. If anyone can help me with this problem I would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
To the guy that lost all the oil after the oil change. Check the seal on the oil plug and make sure it is still there. I had my oil changed by a so called professional place and they did not put the ring back on. It destroyed the motor in my mazda. Another thing that I have done my self is the seal on the oil filter I have broke it and lost quite a bit of oil that way.
I'm a die hard Isuzu owner. I bought my first one in 1992, it is a 1989, 2-doors RS body style. It had 59,000 miles when I bought it. It has 215,000 miles on it now and still running fine. I change the oil every 3,000 miles. It is a 4 cylinder, doesn't smoke. doesn't use any oil, never had to replace any CV joints or boots. Runs fine with good oil pressure. I love it so much I purchased a 1998 May of 2004 with 123,000 miles on it. I wasn't afraid to chance it with that many miles. So far I has been a real good vehicle. I love the power and how it perform. I still have my 89' model and have no plans to get rid of it. I've had offers to buy it because you don't see the short 2-door body style around much. Buy the way my 89' model has the original paint and interior. Seats doesn't have a torn place, neither is the dashboard crack. I just love Isuzu Troopers.
