Where do I begin? ;)
170k miles - exhaust manifold died.
179k miles - exhaust manifold died again.
180k miles - fuel filter needed changing.
181k miles - brakes went out.
185k miles - alternator died.
190k miles - engine death.
Towards the end the speakers blew and started to go out.
All this with regular tune-ups, oil
changes, etc.
This was my first car. I've heard they go forever, but apparently the previous owners (friends of my mother) did not take very good care of it. Granted, I drove the living heck out of it (I'm a DJ and I drive it interstate for club gigs) but according to what I've heard it should have been more reliable with the care I took of it. The gas mileage, however, was top. If you can find one with very low mileage I would HIGHLY recommend it...however, after 160K miles all bets are off. I loved it before it died too. :~ (
How many miles do you want it to get? I mean wow It had problems near 200,000 miles if you wanted a new car you should have bought one cheapskate.
I agree, normally Toyota's last forever however this car had done like 200,000 MILES when things started going wrong. It was your first car so you probably gave it a thrashing!!! Get your facts right before you go criticising the reliability of a car older then 20 years and done 200,000 miles!!!Toyota's are awesome!!!
I've still got one. Having a few problems, but it's far from dead. Bought it new, now at 157,000 miles I've replaced water pump, distributor, rotor and left hub bearing. Recently had to replace the fuel filter, but it should be changed every 30,000 - not 4 times that. CV joints will most likely be next, but I can see me going on to 300,000 miles if I continue to care for it.
You need to take into account that sooner or later it'll need some money into for normal wear and tear even if you're not hard on it. You can't beat Toyota and Honda reliability, I'm never going back to domestic garbage. Import is it!!! ps Look after your Toyota and it'll run for years and years
