I had to change the CV Joints ($160), valve cover gaskets ($60), oil sending unit ($3.00) and power window switch ($50.00). As you can see all the parts where cheap, I do all the work myself so I didn't have to pay labor.
Great car, I've put a aftermarket clutch, lightened flywheel, borla exhaust, and a test pipe on her and she pulls hard. She can take 5.0 mustangs and is very fun to drive. Using a G-Tech I measured my 0-60 to be about 6.6seconds.
I just bought a one owner used mazda mx6.. It has high mileage on it, but everything still works on it..I have a button on the side of the shifter I do not know what it is for.. It is a HOLD button.. I have been told it is for racing, but do not understand how to use it.. All in all the car (even after 10 yrs) still looks brand new and still runs like new.. I love the performance and the style of this car I will definatly buy another one.. If you know what this button is for please describe it and it's use to me thanks... and good luck with yours..
I'm also an MX6 owner I have a 93 mx6 LS v6 5 spd and if anyone has the stock info and stats on them I would greatly appreciate it, I would like to know the stock 0-60 top speed and 1/4 mile times email me at element4life226@aol.com
thanks!
I have a 94 MX6 with the Auto Transmission.
The HOLD button (though I would like to hear other folks comments) is used to hold the current gear while accelerating. As you know, the automatic transmission will shift gears when a certain RPM is hit. If your racing, you might want to hold the acceleration a little into the red. You can pop on the HOLD with your thumb and continue accelerating, then pop it off and the car will shift gears. I once spun tires at 45mph switching from 1st to 2nd using this technique. Pretty cool, but I've heard its not good for the tranny.
Yeah that destroyed my transmission... id reccomend just a swap to a 5 speed.
I'm a 17 year old with a 1994 Mazda MX6 that has an automatic transmission. I bought the car with a 112,000 miles on it and in less than two months now have it just over 117,000. I love the way the car drives and the only complaint I have is the transmission. I should add that it would still be fine if I didn't feel as though I needed to drive like I was 17 or something. Since the cost of repairs on the transmission or enormous I have now found the infamous HOLD button to be well worth it. I can shift the tranny much smoother then if it tried to shift itself. I don't feel the hesitation and stuttering and near grinding that comes from letting it shift by itself. So I say thank goodness for that god forsaken button. It purpose is intended to allow shifting through each individual gear. If you try to place the car in low gear without the button pressed you will actually be in second gear. Once you shift up you're in third and once more you're in fourth gear. With the button pressed in "L" you're actually in first gear and right around 2500-3000 RPM's if you time it right with letting off the gas SLIGHTLY you make a smooth shift into second. Same thing applies for third gear and once in "D" simply release the button at you're desired RPM. It takes practice and time to get used to, but I figured it out on my own. So hope I helped any of you out there who didn't understand. Have fun and if your transmission is fine take every precaution to keep it that way.
I am a high school student taking a shop class. Recently a beautiful '94 gold, manual MX6 LS was put in our auction lot for a fund raiser. The car exterior is spotless, but the engine is seized. The car is beautiful and me being an SUV guy would never think of getting a car until I saw that sleek profile it has. My question is in regards to the engine. Is it a dependable engine? And is there anyone who possibly specializes in that model Mozda engine? Thanks for any input. jpw_fnl@hotmail.com.
I do not sppecialize in the engine for this car, depending on whether it is the 4 cylinder or V6. I do know that the one I have has been mistreated, I am working to get it back in order, but even with the abuse it has taken it still drives good.
Hey guys I just bought a 1994 mazda mx6. I am have a idling problem. it idle very rough I have no idea what the problem, some guy told me that it may be the egr valve. as anyone ran into that problem please let me know jamon8998@yahoo.com.
Hello guys, I've recently purchased at 94 Mx6, automatic, and I am experiencing transmission problems. The car runs beautifully and sounds great, however every now and then as the car is switching form 2nd to 3rd gear, the car will switch hard, then shift back into second, then back to 3rd and so on. While this is happening the overdrive button is blinking on the dash. I've' been told these cars are notorious for this problem however no one can tell me exactly what is wrong with it. I've been told that it can be the computer codes, also I've been told that is could be the torque converter or the overdrive cilanoid. If anyone has heard about this happening before could you please advise as what I should do first. email me at ryannmac@hotmail.com or post a comment here. Thanks.
I own a 1994 mazda mx6. It has 200,000+ miles on it and still runs like a champ. I have apexi exhaust, k&n intake, 15" racing rims on it. Just got it painted a year ago. I am having trouble finding a driver side power window switch it went out and now my window is stuck down. If anyone knows where I can find one please email me at krazyk1902@hotmail.com
Thanks Guys...
I just got a 1987 MX6 185,000 miles. runs pretty good. only one thing though, this thing shifts HARD in first and second. and I mean Hard!!! also reverse! the entire car shakes ans shutters. the tranny was rebuild by Mazda about 70-80 thousand miles back and it has been doing that every since, at least that is what I was told.
I have a '94 mazda mx6. I just bought it for 2200, with 199000. Everything is great except the transmission; it shakes and jerks every so often and scares me. I should be getting it fixed soon, but other than that I am very happy. It accelerates great and sounds great when it wants to.
These are known as 75k transmissions in the Trade. If you really want one, get a good warranty or better still get yourself a stick shifter.
I just bought a 1994 mx6 and it's a 4 cylinder engine. I'm just wondering if someone could tell me the 0-60 time for it? Thanks a lot!
OK guys, I just bought a 1994 Mazda MX6 and it's a stick. I paid 2295 for it and it has 177 thousand miles on it. I was wondering if I got a decent price on it?
