"A low cost luxury phenomenon"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Transmission replaced for no reverse.

Transmission still went foreward. transmission cost: $2300

engine replaced for $1400 for blown.

Head gasket.. due to accident engine ran normally before that.

Outer tie rod ends and ball joints replaced.

Alternator replaced for $80 and belt replaced for $8.00.

Driver seat worn through left side leather bolster.

Trunk hinges bad.

Air conditioning needs charge.

Tires were no good, but replaced them with my previous chevy beretta's wheels and tires no cost.

The ignition coil went out leaving me stranded once. never again. cost: $60.

General comments?

Best car I have had so far in my life. bought the car for 675 from a dealer who wanted 2500. told him I will give him the amount he paid for the car and he agreed. the vehicle was in average shape, but great shape for a 11 year old car. the car has everything! and, aside from the trunk, there has been no nagging chronic problems. the lexus dealership, who is very expensive, gave me free inspections just for owning a lexus! isn't that great? they told me what was wrong with the car, and gave free car washes. I have changed a lot on this car, but, considering I live in chicago, the repairs are not significant. with all the parts, replaced, I can easily sell the car for $2000 more than my total investment. the car handles like a race car, and yet is plush to ride in, soft, forgiving, compliant, and safe, with its airbag and ABS. I am very proud to own it, and I believe it is a largely overlooked goldmine.

I strongly agree. The only problem I have is the trunk hinges, a little rust by the rear wheels and a knocking

noise due to front ball joints. Aside from this it has a Toyota V6 that is very aggressive. The sunroof is off track, but I can live with that. The down side is, it will not pass emissions. I plan to invest some money in it. The car is worth keeping.

Why was your reverse out? Did you find out why this occurred? If you would not mind sharing what you was told and how the problem was rectified? I have a 1990 Es250 with same problem. Thanks you can email me flitemedic@yahoo.com.
