1999 Audi A4 Quattro from North America - Comments

"A great design, but not very durable"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

The timing belt broke at 62,000 miles, destroying the entire motor. Audi did assist with the cost of the new motor, paying $2000 of the $5000 bill.

There is apparently a timing belt problem with the 1.8T motor from Audi and Volkswagen. To be safe, have the timing belt replaced at 50,000 miles. Audi recommends replacing the belt at 105,000 miles -- don't try to wait that long.

The headlight washer pump failed at about 60,000 miles ($130).

The driver's side airbag also failed at about 55,000 miles. Audi covered the cost to replace it, even though the warranty had expired.

General comments?

This is a beautiful car that handles great. The features found in this car match that of more expensive cars. The 1.8T model could use more power, but the better gas mileage is a benefit. I would recommend buying the Audi Assured extended warranty if you buy an Audi, and selling the car before the warranty expires; these cars are very expensive to service.

It's interested you stated that the headlight washer pump when out around 60,000 miles because mine just went out and I'm at 62,000.

What are the comments on a 1997 A4 2.8... looking at buying one with 150k miles.
