"A decent competent car"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Water pump and heater control valve.

But I bought the car knowing about the water pump.

General comments?

For a V8 I expected better peformance.

For a Low output 5.0 (305) it is gas hungry.

The Ride is decent and cornering is OK.

I do wish for more high rpm power.

For a V8 5.0 (305) it has a lot of power and is great for quick acceleration and doesn't suck as much gas as I thought it would. This Camaro is a great muscle car I just wish that it would have had a 6 speed manual in it. One other thing that I didn't like about it was the ride and handling that you are accustomed to getting from a muscle car. Performance wise it was also great it had plenty of get go and accelerated very quickly (0-60 4.2 sec.0). I would recommend this car to anyone looking for performance.

4.2 to 60 for these cars?? hahaha no more like 7.8 to 60... 4.2 is more like a new corvette. These cars are horribley anemic and pretty doggy even when in a good state of tune. Go run a mustang GT and see how well you do. TBI LO3 305 V8 camaros are high 15's to low 16's in good tune. A mustang from the same year should be low 14's in V8 trim. Hell my fricking 4 cylinder mustang will give my camaro a run till around 40. My camaro ran a 16.2 in the 1/4 while my 2.3 88hp mustang ran a 17.1...

I am sorry, but a mustang can't keep up with a camaro.. granted, that the 85-93 the mustangs 5.0 out performed the 5.0 camaros, but that was ford top mustang at the time, when chevy pushed a 350 5.7l out out performing anything ford could throw out. even the now day mustangs are a joke... there cubic inces in there GT's are only like 280's my respect for mustangs are no more... Atleast chevy can come up with a 5.3l in a ssr that out runs heavily modded stangs and the vettes, I am sorry, but it takes a lot of time and money to get a stang moving...

SSR outrunning heavily modded stangs??? how much vicodin are you taking?? those things run mid 15's!!! WEAK!

In 93 Ford came out with the Cobra. It would easily outrun LT1 and L98 TPI Camaro's. I know this for a fact. And small cube 281 03 cobra did pretty well against the C5 vette forget the Trans am or SS.

If you want to argue this out feel free to step onto stangnet. com or team3rdgen.com (team3rdgen is an Fbody site)

L98's aren't that impressive unless they came in a C4 corvette which means they had 113 casting for heads. Which roughly translates to 58cc aluminum heads. The C4's came with alum heads smaller combustion chamber and a more aggressive cam. Now even with all of that the 93 cobra's were keeping up despite less cubes. Funny how that works.

I have worked on both mustangs and camaro's. Give me a fricking stang to work on anyday over an Fbody. And don't preach about TPI. It isn't that great. It pretty much falls on its face in the L98 cars at about 5200 rpms. The best thing to do with TPI is to rip it off and run a holley stealth ram (HSR).

So when I say these cars as slow as can be I mean it. 305 is a frickin truck motor not really capable of any real performance due to being unable to run any valve larger than 1.94/1.50. Also back to the comments about the stangs. My 89 Mustang GT ran a 14.42 cutting a 2.2 60 ft time and a trap speed of 98 mph. THIS WAS BONE STOCK! I am not an ace driver. I can hold my own with the good drivers. But 14.4 is what good drivers were getting out of the IROC TPI L98 Cars. with 5 spd LB9 IROC's running about a 14.6 bone stock. Yes yes I know go ahead qoute me about factory freaks. But if you want to do that MM&FF ran a BONE STOCK 88 Mustang Coupe 5.0 5 spd and ran a 13.8 at 100mph. hhmm... better than almost every LT1 time I ever saw...

I own a 90 Camaro Z28 with a 305 and a 4 speed automatic. Overall it's a good car and performs quite well.

However as for a 03 cobra doing PRETTY well against a C5 vette. I doubt it!! The only way Ford is able to reach the performance standards of a vette is by heavily modifying its mustang. A perfect example is the Cobra SVT compared to the Z06. Both cars have similar torque and horsepower ratings and are approx. the same price. But the Cobra has no radio, no backseat, and no air conditioning. It does however have a blower in it in order for to match the horsepower and torque ratings of the naturally aspirated 350 found in the Vette. All of these mods add more power and save weight. Not for nothing, but for $46,000 I'd rather have a/c and a radio to listen to as I'm out performing a Cobra SVT in all areas.
