1983 Ford Meteor Ghia from Australia and New Zealand - Comments

"A great little car!"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

The radiator pipe burst.

Seats have sunken.

General comments?

This car has been going very good since I got it, and believe me I push it to its limits.

Even though its front wheel drive and I can't pop many burnouts in it, it can still do some pretty neat stuff.

I really need to get new seats though as they are extremly sunken and are very low.

I would recommend a meteor to anyone, especially as a first car.

I've just bought an 83-85 Meteor Ghia for $1900, haven't picked it up yet as it is currently being worked on (Exhaust Bracket being welded, new windscreen, new clutch, and new handbrake shoe) he's doing all this and getting a roadworthy on it before I pick it up next week, have I got a good deal? the car is known inside and out as this guy is our mechanic and has been servicing the car all its life, and knows it's been looked after... also, is there anything cheap I can do to the little beast to make performance that bit better? and how much do you think a rear door would be worth down at the wreckers? keep it real :) Dave.

I bought a 1893 ford meteor abouts 3 months ago for $2500 with registration and road worthy. I have had nothing, but problems with it. Before I bought it it had to have a lot of work done to it before it could pass the road worthy. Within the 1st hour of picking it up the radiator went! Just recently the engine has been very loud and its not too good getting up hills. (it's an auto) I had to have the manifold gasket replaced, I have been losing water and just as soon as last week it has been stalling when in park and not idiling right. It broke down on me on the way to work, This is the 3rd time the Racv has been out to look at it in the past 2 weeks, and apparently now the carby needs replacing. This is not meant as negative. I would definetly reccomend it as a 1st car, but before you buy get a mechanic to have a proper look at the engine inside and out or ull end up paying a lot 2 get everything fixed. I'm on the borderline of putting mine in the trading post to sell it...

I got a 1983 meteor I October 2002 as my first car. it had been well looked after so there were just a few rust patches, but that's about it. it cost me $700. about 2 months later we noticed it was losing heaps of water. it turned out the radiator was stuffed. the head was rusted and leaking. so we bought a new reconditioned motor for $800, it's a great motor. now I've done about 50000 solid kilometers on that motor and its still going strong. in summary I got a great car for about $1700. apart from that everything is tip top. except the boot, which is quite dodgy.
