2002 Volkswagen Cabrio GLS from North America - Comments

19th Mar 2003, 16:00

"Looks cute, but a fiasco on wheels."

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Both driver and passenger window regulator came loose.

Air pump line leak on power door locks.

Large evaporator system leak.

Cruise control inoperable.

Heated seat lights inoperable.

A/C light inoperable.

Wheel bearing loose.

General comments?

The car has spent more time in the shop than on the road.

Not only is the dealership a customer service nightmare, but so is the corporate care office.

I'm sorry to hear of all the problems you've had with your Cabrio. They can be such fun cars when all is right.

It must be very frustrating to feel the dealer and manufacturer are not sympathetic to your problems.

Unfortunately I'm hearing of more and more cases where manufacturers are not stepping up and assisting customers with valid problems.

I'd like to throw out this question to VW Cabrio and Cabriolet owners. Do the vehicles not manufactured in Osnabruk seem to have more problems than the German manufactured vehicles? I'm wondering if the quality suffered

when the Cabrios assembly shifted to Mexico (or is it Brazil?)

to commentor:

I think you are correct. It appears that quality has gone downhill on the vw cabrios. There is a higher percentage of negative postings at this website for late model years than the 95 & 96's. Too bad. My little '96 has been very trouble-free. This car is fun and very versatile (recently drove pretty far with a tandem bicycle laid over the backseat area, after first putting down a thick blanket). -chuck
