1992 Dodge Rampage from North America - Comments

"Definitely Different"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

I put 3 mufflers on this truck. I felt that the muffler was the one item that was not engineered at all.

CV joints were replaced on both sides.

General comments?

The Dodge Rampage is a compact sport-truck based on the 1992 Dodge Omni 024. It is front wheel drive, and has a pickup bed and tailgate. It is only a two seater, but I loved this thing. The power was pretty good when mated with the manual transmission. The automatic really took a lot of power to turn.

I did not have an air conditioner in mine. I wished for one every summer. The Rampage tends to absorb heat. After tinting my windows, I noticed a great decrease in heat.

When it comes to stereos, there isn't much choice. The front doors will accept 5.25" speakers, but there isn't much depth.

Bonus for the interior, is that all Rampages have a rear storage shelf. It is handy for tossing certain items into. The drawback is that spirited driving tends to slide things from side to side.

I sold mine off when I was broke and poor in the military. I wish I had it back. It is different, and has character.

The Rampage line was built only in the early 1980's, not 90's as the review says, so you can assume the writer just made a mistake on his manufacture dates.

I have a silver & blue 1983 Rampage, if you are looking for one. Location:Seattle, WA. rakos@earthlink.net 03-27-04.

The writer above is correct, the Rampage was built only as 1982-1984 model years, '84 got the quad headlights. Though there were rumours of a Shelby, possibly Turbo, version it never materialized. Currently, I have a 1982 with the 2.2L and a 4-gear. It sat under a tree at my parents' house for three years. Last week my son and I poured some fresh fuel down it, turned the key, she's a-running. I have since installed a factory roller cam from a '90 Sundance 2.2 and also the exhaust manifold from the same car. Pepped up the little 'Page no end. With the limited slip in the front, you wouldn't believe where this little truck will go in the snow!

I have an 83 Rampage Sport. It is different! In my driveway is a 1975 Monte Carlo SS, a 1965 Mustang, and usually a 1998 Dodge minivan and a custom built Chopper. The Rampage gets more attention then all of them! It's pretty fast to, I plan to put a Hemi in it and convert it to a full-frame rear-wheel driver next year, but for now the 2.2 (with high performance oil air filter, and custom dual exhaust) is just fine for what I need. I love this thing. It was well worth the $800.

I made an error on my email address earlier.

It is seamanseye@comcast.net.

I am looking for a new carburetor and a Hanes book or whatever on the car.

Geez, just get a Haynes/Chiltons for the Omni/Horizon.

It's the same car mechanically.

The Rampage is included in the book with the Omni/Horizon, but you have to get the one that says Rampage on the cover. The only differences that matter is in the rear suspension and braking system, the rear axle is suspended with leaf springs and there is a sensor that adjusts the brake pressure to the rear wheels depending on load. If this isn't adjusted properly the rear wheels will lock up while braking when the trucklet is empty.
