"Never buy a Mitsubishi."

What things have gone wrong with the car?

I have had nothing but problems with my car. I have been experiencing rust this is going to be the 3rd time that I am taking the car back to a dealership for rusting problems. My transmission is slipping. My radio works when it wants to. The engine runs rather rough and loud. I have been working with corporate and am in need of hiring an attorney because this has been a known problem (the rusting) with my car and all they want to do is porter it and put touch up paint on it (temporary fix). My engine rides hard. Mitsubishi will not stand behind their product and I keep trying to get these problems resolved and it ain't happening. I have been working with this forever. Mitsubishi does not want to acknowledge that this car is a lemon and has been a lemon for the beginning why should I have to drive around in a rust bucket that I paid $19 grand for. It's like standing outside in your front lawn giving away $19 grand to a stranger and there is nothing you can do about it. Never buy a Mitsubishi. I have a 1995 ford escort 220,000 miles with no rust and everything works like it is bad new unlike the galant. They say you get what you pay for well I thought that I had upgraded from an escort to a galant. I have a tin car (Galant) rusting and they say that it is surface rust. I'm sorry rust is rust. I'm sure that if you spend $19 grand for a car you are not going to expect for it to rust w/in the 1st 6 months as this has been going on with me since I owned the car w/in the 1st 6 months. I am getting an attorney and as well I will be contacting the news crew to also make a comment on the news about this. Mitsubishi don't stand behind you they are against you. Never again will I buy a Mitsubishi. Mitsubishi won't admit that this car is a lemon. A friend of mine has the same exact car and isn't going through none of this.

General comments?

The car looks pretty, but operates horrible. I drive a piece of rusting tin. Can't wait to see how much more rust will be exposed in the next year.

I think you have just been unlucky- in one recent year (I think 2001) the Galant has been awarded the "most reliable car in the UK" award, and it has done so for some reason...

Is your car made in the USA? Non-Japanese workforces cannot ALWAYS adhere to strict Japanese manufacturing standards even if they usually do- the Nissan plant in Britain is the most productive in Europe...

I can agree with the dealers on the fact that the galant does get a lot of surface rust, especially on the exhaust manifold. This is due to the amount of salt which is used on roads, and water and other stuff, being easily spread in to the engine area. The problem with the manifold and valve case, are that, they are in fact made out of aluminum, however, it is a high grade aluminum. I have a 2000 Mitsubishi Galant ES. My transmission has given me no problems, yet. However, I do understand your woes.

We have a 2003 Galant with 23k miles. We live in the desert, and I noticed the other day that there was rust on a front door seam, where the door rests against the inner seal. Now, understand, we live in the desert... so salt, no snow, very little rain. There should NOT be rust on this car. Dealer tried to tell me "it's not rust... its the material they use to weld". OK, an orange, crusty weld that rubs and flakes off on your finger, and peels paint? Interesting. We will see what happens this weekend. I have to take it back so he has daylight for his camera.

Well, this is what you get when you buy a NEW CHEAP car for $19,000. That is just ridiculous, at that time, for $12,000 you could have gotten a 1998 Lexus GS300, and you would have still been in love with it, while it had a mileage of 150,000. but NOOOO people just HAVE to buy something new, even if it's a KIA, or a MITSUBISHI. What is the point? Plus, when buying a used PREMIUM car, you have the luxury of researching it (on sites like this) and THEN making your decision.

Buying a brand new car is like going on a blind date, and when you get there, that woman usually looks like your high school gym teacher.

I bought a used Mitsubishi Galant 2000 2 years ago, and I think it is one of the most reliable cars I have ever drive.

In two years I have driven 20000 miles, and the only thing I have to do is fill it up with gas and change the oil and filter.

It still runs as it was new, and I like the lines, which were one of the most beautiful lines in 2000.

If I had to buy another Galant 2000, I would do it again.

I have a 2000 Mitsubishi Galant, and it turns but it doesn't stay running. I took it in and they said it was the manufacturer control auxiliary inputs outputs; what does this mean?
