1995 Oldsmobile Achieva S from North America - Comments

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Door panel is falling off, replaced the motor in the power window twice, stalls when it is hot and more often than not when it is hot (I live in the humid south) the transmission gets stuck and the rpms will read 4 doing 70mph (when it's cold it normally reads 2-21/2). Several dealerships COULD NOT FIX PROBLEM although we recently found out that Oldsmobile did make it public that this car has that problem with the transmission - $700 to fix but of course they didn't recall it and the dealerships didn't tell us this until three years after we had taken it to be checke about 10 times. If they don't think it's dangerous they should try pulling out into traffic and having the car stop.

General comments?

No engine problems, but major transmission problems, interior rattles and is beginning to fall apart, very uncomfortable for anyone over 5' tall. This car is a piece of CRAP!

I just bought a used 95 Achieva with 87,000 miles, and the transmission started acting up the day I drove it home. Although it did not happen on my 2 test drives, the engine winds up to 3-4000 RPM until 1st gear kicks in (very scary when making a left turn). The dealer has no answer.

I bought a '95 in 2000, used by one owner. Immediately had problems in the dash area (speedometer and gas gauge). I don't have an RPM dial in my dash, however the speedometer likes to read 120 mph when I'm driving in the city at 30 mph. Of course it doesn't do that all the time and never when the mechanic is test driving it. Took them 3 tries to fix it. Finally they just replaced the entire speedometer/gauge area. Wish me luck.

I am currently driving my 1995 Achieva, which has had the transmission replaced four times. After, much hassle at the dealer, they replaced my transmission the first time. Almost immediately, the same problem with stalling occurred, back to the dealer.

Two days later... Well, you get the picture. Very dissatisfied with my car and even more displeased with the manufacturer. Oh, I got in the mail another recall for this car a month ago. I have to wait until the parts are available. I spend more time at the dealer than my own home!

I purchased my 1995 Olds Achieva in 1998 with 42,000 miles on it. It is now have a little over 111,900 miles and I am only now experiencing difficulties with it. I am very pleased with my purchase. The only thing happening is that it is cutting off on me when I start on an incline. I love my car and do not want to trade it for nothing. That is my friend on the highway, with my many trips between Maryland and New York.

Satisfied Olds Achieva Owner.

WE HAVE JUST LAID OUR 95 ACHIEVA TO REST AFTER 373,000k. NO MAJOR ENGINE REPAIRS AND NO TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. A REAL WORKHORSE. IT HAS JUST DIED OF OLD AGE. BODY STILL IN VERY GOOD CONDITION. I THOUGHT IT WAS A WONDERFUL CAR.

My 95 Olds Achieva finally died. Well, I could resurrect it with a new engine, but that no longer is a good financial move. I had 142,000 miles on it. Overall, I have been pretty happy with it, however just as those on previous posts have said, power window motor is out, door panel falls off, transmission was replaced once, and oil sending unit was replaced twice. That may sound bad, but I have had the car since 1996 with 30,000 miles on it at the beginning. It was the most reliable car I ever had.

I have gotten a 95 Achieva from my brother with 297,548k and is now 279,885 and is an extremely reliable car. I've stalled it once. 1st doesn't work so I start it out in 2nd and manually shift it to drive. I had to replace to the driver window motor and steering fluid hose. the back right window motor is going. but other than that the engine is odly in excellent condition. this car will probably last me another 100,000k after I put a new transmission in.
