What things have gone wrong with the car?

Gear box repairs at 64,000.

Currently possible gear box problems again at 115,000.

The diff is noisy during gear changes at low revs.

Engine mounts at 85,000.

Tyre tread is required every 12-18 months.

Complete new air conditioning system

required at 108,000.

General comments?

Good amounts of power available when required.

The vehicle operates best when premium high octane fuel is used.

Cabin is comfortable and controls are easily operated for it's age.

Tyre wear occurs quicly at the front of the vehicle even if driven lightly.

Overall happy with the vehicle, it has not been the cheapest car to operate, service and repair, but has done the job well.

I thought that you may like an update as to how my beast is operating. I wrote this original review several month back for you.

The possible gear box repairs were confirmed. It was found that the gear range sensor was faulty. This was corrected at the price of $180.

Other recent repairs to the car have been new rear disks. The original ED disks were replaced with the EA model's as they are 2mm thicker and will last better with time. All pads were done with Bendix 2 on the front and Lucas pads placed on the rear as they do not squeak as the Bendix 2 have been known to do.

The universal joints were replaced as there was too much movement in them. This was close to $400.

The diff has also had a minor rebuild. There was backlash evident which made the gear changes a bit average.

The ED has recently done a trip on the Newell Highway from Brisbane to Melbourne and back and did not skip a beat. The car may not be as new as what it once was, but after all the work done I would rather own this vehicle that the AU model.

We have the new Barra T240 XR6 on the way, but we have also chosen to retain the ED. After all the money spent it would be crazy to sell it, after all we would never see the money back. It is going to make a fantastic car for the other half and still has many years of life in it.

The ED now has 127000km on the clock and no it has not been a trouble free ride. Even after all the repairs carried out and the cash spent I would not swap it. Oh yes, one change on the new Falcon. I will not be having the automatic. If you wish to buy an ED my best advice would be take the time and find a 5 speed. After the EB 1993 model Ford was being killed in the speed game with Holden's VP Commodore. When they made the ED they changed the diff for faster gear change and accelleration, the motor was tweaked to find everything available in the 4.00. One prblem, they forgot to update the gear box to handle the power increase.

Take my advice, 5 speed great. Auto, try and avoid it.
