1993 Ford Taurus Stationwagon from North America - Comments

"If it was a horse it would be shot"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

I feel sorry for the car, I really do. Having Ford as your creator is not an easy thing to live with.

The head gasket blew (surprise, surprise!) at 140K. If only I had done more research before I purchased it. I did not realize this was a common occurence on these engines, but I do now.

It's never been the same since because once the anti-freeze mixes with the oil,

it's basically a messy unreliable piece of junk. We only use it to drive around town now.

Tires also seem to wear out quickly because it's quite heavy.

List of items replaced is too long and boring. I think the transmission is the only original part!

General comments?

Something positive? Hmmm...

It's quite powerful and the seats are OK.

Apart from that, I will take it as one of life's lessons to learn by. A mistake

on my part, which seemed a good idea at the time.

These used Fords are cheap, so they appeal to those of us on a tight budget, and who want a newer vehicle.

Unfortunately the other side of the coin

reveals an inferior built vehicle with a low life expectancy, and constant maintenance.

Oh God, the tires don't wear out because the car is heavy. Aaaaahahahahahahaha. Why don't semi tires wear out? Did you check your alignment? How about your balance? How about your PRESSURE?

If heavy cars have problems look at these.

To compare to ====Honda Insight 2,000 lbs.

2004 Maybach 67 6,301 Lbs

2004 Maybach 57 6,050

Bently Arnage 5,700

Rolls Royce Ph 5,577

Audi A8L 4,463

Lincoln Town Car 4,462.

And the list goes on of all new 2004 Cars sold in America. 17-new cars weigh more than 4,000lbs.

Almost all SUV and Trucks and Mini-Vans are closer to 5,000 lbs.

A new 2004 Taurus weighs 3,333 Lbs... the 93 weighs 3,238 lbs.

Wow, way to dwell on the 'heavy' thing.

OK. So I exaggerated a little with the tires. It's still a crap car though!

Most people who are having problems have the 3.8 engine. I have had three Ford Tauruses with the 3.0. All have been outstanding cars, the best I believe I have ever owned. All have well over 200,000 miles on them. I have not pampered or babied them at all. I might have changed the oil every 10,000 miles. I did make sure I kept the oil up though. I also had the transmissions flushed at 90,000 miles just after I bought them. The only problems were wear related. I replaced the alternator on two of them and the water pump once on all three. The only weakness was the ignition module problem which is common to this car. By the way, I think I might have mistakenly posted somewhere else that I had the 3.8 liter. I realize now that it was the 3.0. Anyway, I love these cars and would love to find a good pre 1996 SW with low miles that has the wonderful 3.0 engine.
