Rebuilt transmission, replaced head gasket, cracked heater core, overheats constantly.
Repair cost will vary, I know that it would've been cheaper to repair in my home town but I moved and went with who I found. I bought this car used, and I have to say that the previous owners sold it at exactly the right time. It had great power in the engine - it should it's a V6. BUT, I can't even drive it to work anymore without worrying about having problems = very frustrating. Things have been going wrong with the car periodically, many small things in addition to the major problems listed above. I will avoid Fords like the plague from now on.
I have had at least 6 Fords since I began driving about 24 years ago. All of them were used, except in 1986 when my wife and I bought a brand new Escort wagon. All were very reliable to me, and my 1992 Taurus wagon is no exception, considering when we bought it in 1997, it "only" had 97,000 miles on it. Now it is almost ready to turn over 156,000 miles, and the only major problem we ever had was the mass airflow sensor give out at about 130,000 miles. (one day down and 300 dollars later) I am very pleased with Fords products. By the way, I have had less trouble with all my Fords combined than my Dad has had with 2 Toyotas.
I have the same 3.8 V6 taurus and I am concerned about pinging and gurgling noises coming from my gas tank and subframe. I am wondering if anyone knows how to research the exact Vin# and plant the car was made at to see if I should know of any concerns about those two problems.

I purchased a used 1992 Taurus G L wagon two years ago at a very reasonable price. Outside of normal wear and tear maintenance I couldn't be more satisfied with the purchase of a used vehicle. This is the second Taurus for me, the first being a 1998 provided by my employer. I was just as satisfied with it as the 1992 I have now.
I'm experiencing a problem with the temperature control on the heating and air. It's as though no matter where you set the control, it's always putting out the same temperature. If anyone knows a simple solution to this problem, please e-mail me. I feel there must be something I'm overlooking.
Thanks
