2001 Ford Taurus SES from North America - Comments

"The car was great at first, but now I dislike it"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Front end vibration.

Front rotors replaced.

Engine stalls when air conditioner is on.

Windows squeaks when put up or down.

Whistling noise in cabin, windshield.

Windshield has crack all the way across.

General comments?

The front-end vibration is really annoying. The dealer has replaced an axle, tires, rims, anti-sway bar, and brake rotors. The problem still exists.

The front rotors were replaced at 30,000 miles. I did not think that it was necessary at this interval.

The engine stalls, or wants to stall when I have the air conditioner on and the car is in park. I have found a technical service bulletin online, and told them I know there is a problem with it. They deny it and say it is normal.

The whistling noise in the cabin is actually the front windshield. I found out there would be a recall issued on certain models on March 30 2003. One month after owning the car, a slight chip in the windshield caused it to crack all the way across.

I am considering trying to get the car replaced, or repairs done under the Lemon Laws of the state that I live in.

We purchased a 2001 Taurus SEL 18 months ago. Luckily, we purchased an Extended Warrnty for it, unfortunately that cost us $1,395.00. To make a long story short, this car has cost us $400.00 in deductibles. At 42,000 miles, the steering rack had to be replaced. At 44,000, the fuel pump had to be replaced. The car is in the shop again right now - another steering column/rack problem. We're thinking about getting rid of the car real soon.

I have a 2003 SES 24 valve sport taurus. I LOVE IT AND WILL NEVER GET RID OF IT!!! I have had absolutely no problems with it!!! If you take care of your car like you should you should not have many problems with it! Taurus's are good cars for the money! We also own two other 1990 Taurus's which still run prefectly to this day! Not much to look at, but they run nice and have only had minor repairs which is normal for their use! Definately recommend taurus to anyone!

Well I guess owning a taurus is either a love or hate kind of relationship. I've got a 2001 ses wagon which now has 87k on the clock. I like the looks, room, and the car has a lot of features for its price. BUT... heres whats gone wrong with mine..

Recalled 3 times... (issues..adjustable pedals, coil springs, headlight switch)

headlight switch had to be replaced. AGAIN!!!

Latch on tailgate fell off...

New transmission at my expense @ 38k... ooops warranty runs out at 36k.. ford did nothing to help out..

Yes, numerous creaks and rattles

power antenna broke, thankfully in the up position..

Low coolant light is on.. bad sensor... $200 repair

new fuel injection needed... another $500+ repair..

I'm hoping to get another year or so out of it so I can get a newly redesigned toyota highlander. I only made this decision after seeing that the trade in value of this car is basically zero. I will NEVER buy another ford product, and for that matter, anything that's got an american nameplate for a badge.
